Popping is caused by removing the connection crossover between the two exhausts. This is why they connect them together; it helps midrange torque and helps the exhaust equalizing their pressure...

You already have 10,000 more miles on yours than I got out of mine. The foam rubber deteriorated on mine. I could only find them on ebay and the dealer. I paid 40 something for mine.
