When putting on Kuryakyn Iso Grips...

I've seen some posts in the past about the glue coming from Kuryakyn not being good enough, or coming dried, some people suggested Gorilla Glue instead. But in the past (for other motorcycles), I've been told that just using hair spray is good enough. Is there a reason stronger glue is needed for the Kuryakyn grips?

The right side doesn't need glue. The assembly changes. I haven't had any trouble with the Kury glue. Be sure to use something kinda long to get the glue on all of the rubber sections all the way down in the grip. On one bike I only put the glue at the top section and when I would push the bike around the left grip would try to twist. One day the grip came loose. It's amazing how hard it is to ride with a loose grip.

I wouldnt use Gorilla glue since it expands 4-5X from how much you apply. I used the Kury glue and it worked fine. there are some details to follow though.

The glue that came with my Kury grips was hardened in the tube. I used a little all-purpose adhesive on the left side and it's nice and tight. I really don't think I got enough glue on there to make a difference, though.

I've used plain old Elmer's glue on the left grip. Seems to last about a year and then loosens. Just take the grip off, clean the bar, and put more Elmer's on. Works for me.

The best glue I've found is the Loctite clear stuff from Wal-Mart.

Sand down the left bar where the grip will go with whatever sandpaper you have lying around, wipe it clean with some Windex.

Forget squirting the glue into the grip. Instead, take your glue and apply 3-4 thin lines from the end of the bar up about 1/2" of the way to where the grip will stop. Test fit the grip so you know where that is. You don't want to glue the bar all the way to where the clutch reservoir is because the glue could squeeze out when you slide the grip on.

If you use the Loctite glue, put it on and wait for a couple minutes for it to get tacky but still slippery. Slide the grip on, use a twisting back-and-forth motion. That'll help smear the glue inside the grip and coat the rubber bits in there. You'll have a few seconds also to adjust the grip to make the pattern even with the right if you so desire.

The glue sets up in about 10 minutes and is all but permanent in 24 hrs. I used this method for mine and they do not budge, in the least little bit.

Doc, it's Loctite "Stik & Seal" waterproof adhesive. Comes in a white 4" tube with blue label.

I used thin layer of gorilla glue on a sanded handle bar. It has held well for 2 years so far with no problems.
