I got a set of the pegs with the magnum clamps. Anybody have these and did you wrap anything on the crash bars to keep the clamps from marring the chrome?

I have a set myself and didn't wrap anything around the tube, I just clamped them on.

I meant to add: Unlike some less expensive pegs, these clamps won't move once they're on. These things are solid!

I use the Magnum quick clamps too. didn't put anything under them, but make sure they are where you want them before you cinch them down.

The clamps on the set that arrived are 1 1/8". The crash bars on our 2007 Nomads are 1 1/4" diameter, correct??

I put the longhorns on mine, didn't clamp them down hard until they were where I really wanted them, so no marks on this end. Afterwards, I really wished I had put down some thin rubber tubing or gasket, but, if they are where I like them, there's no need I suppose.

As someone else mentioned, once these things grab down, they're down hard. I've no worries about mine slipping.

I have been known to use strips of plastic from a 6 liter soda bottle as an inner liner to keep from scratching chrome.

I learned from a bike shop to use some light weight cloth strip to use to protect the chrome on the crash bars.......You can trim off any excess with a razor blade.

It did work for me.....When I removed my pegs with Longhorn Magnum clamps from the engine guard on my 900 there were no marks at all. I had them on for two years at 47,000 miles.
When remounting the pegs on my Nomad....I did the same thing.....Used thin cloth.

Thanks VE. I don't have my own set of calipers but did check the diameter by using a 12" crescent wrench. Opened the jaws wide enough to slip over the bar and measured the opening between the jaws. Exactly 1 1/4" on the engine guardsand 1 1/8" for the saddlebag guards. Now all I have to do is exchange the clamps. I got them for $108.00 from ExtremeRevolution.com $7.00 shipping totalled $115.

I used this: http://www.aerostich.com/product.php...cat=278&page=1 for something I put on my handlebars, and when I took it off, not a mark. I have a lot left over (and I only have a half sheet, since I shared with a co-worker), so when I put my Longhorn Dualies (sp?) on, I plan on doing the same thing. (Just ordered them off eBay a few minutes ago, so I probably won't get until the end of next week, but I'll try to remember to report back.

When my coworker and I were cutting up the sheet to split it, our boss came in and said "Oh, shelf liner? Can get it at home depot for $6." I don't know if it's really the same or not, but something else to look into.
