molding on sidebags coming loose!
It'll be tough to do without bending them, and if you bend one then you're screwed.
At $45 per stripe (that's $270 for a set of 6) you don't want to bend them. Unfortunately I can't tell you the best glue to use as I haven't done this. I will, however, say that you should take the bag off the bike and lay it flat (or slightly propped up so the ends you're gluing are flat) so the glue stays in the trough and doesn't run down the door. Once re-glued you can tape the ends down flat and weight them so they stay down until the glue dries. They're put on with a plastic foam tape that has acrylic adhesive on both sides. You can buy it at any hardware store, but removing & retaping the entire thing would be tedious, and removing all the old tape (so you can put on new tape) would be a total PITA. By the way, this is different than the normal automotive-type trim adhesives I've used, which are basically types of rubber cement. I do not think those two adhesives are chemically compatable. |

The two sided automotive trim tape works well for this application, its available at any bodyshop.

Hey Caddmann,
You mentioned the price of the molding strips. Where can you get them, and can you get them in chrome? Just got my bike and had it painted black. Chrome would be nice, if they're not too much. Couldn't find anything online, and I looked for quite a while. Thanks |

These came loose because the PDI fool didn't get the waxes off in the first place..
Mine came loose, and what I did was slip a q tip soaked in rubbing alcohol under therasied areas, but not so far back as the gap, because i didn't want to bend the strips. Then with 3-M clear emblem glue and a pin I slipped in some glue.. With masking tape I clamped the trim piese down, for over night, for the glue to set. No more problem. If you are a clutz like I can be at times, mask off the bag door above and below each trim piece first, so if a gob of glue goes haywire you don't have to clean up a mess.

also you can use a heat gun and remove the strip with ease then put new double sided tape and restick.

If you just want to change out to chrome strips, go to Auto Zone, they have 1/4 " chrome strips by 3M. 20' for about $15. I have used a lot of this stuff, not to change out the strips you are talking about, but to make front fender tips, and to chrome up the tank, the back of the bags and the side covers. Looks good and stays on...

A warning on ordering the bag strips: They come to the dealer in a paper wrapper, not cardboard or a box! Open up the package before you leave the dealership to make sure they are not bent or creased. I ordered one twice, both creased, before I just cancelled the order. It was not the dealers fault, it happens in shipping.

That same warning applies to gaskets. The waterpump gasket I bought at our dealer just comes in a baggie. The first couple they tried to sell me were damaged.
