Small screws on inside bag latch coming loose
Sorry if this has been covered before, I haven't seen it mentioned.
I took about a 110 mile ride today, some highways, but mostly backroads. Averaged around 60-65mph on some less than stellar roads. When I arrived back at the bunkhouse, I opened the right side bag to remove the 'riding kit' bag I always bring along, and the small screw at the bottom left of the inside mounting plate for the latch just popped out into the bag. These are tiny, phillips-head screws and VERY short. I tried screwing it back in, but it wouldn't ever grip. Two of the others on the same row were loose, and wouldn't tighten. I finally got some rubberized cement and re-seated them. Anyone else have this happen?? Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Not me, but I am not sure these were not stripped... Seems like the holes were stripped at some point. What sort of thread is on the screw?
If I knew that it might lend to a better fix than rubberized cement...

Small screws on inside bag latch coming loose
I gave these small screws some thought. I think somehow they became loose. Maybe they were stripped at the factory, or maybe they just were not as tight as they should have been.
In use the vibrations may have loosened them more, to the pint the plate they hold worked loose and did vibrate, pushing and pulling on them untill the threads were strippped. I can see rubber glue working for a short time, but not for very long. I feel something more permanent will have to be forth coming for a real fix. That depends on the screw thread type.
