Lay Down Or Not
Ok, I love the solo look on my bike but I hate the look of the plate being straight up, I have read about the mod on gadgets site but has anyone here done this mod, and if so please send a pic. so I can see how it looks, I just can't see how a mouse pad can lay this plate down, thanks to all.....

Koolaid
The mouse pad is used to cushion the area between the mounting plate and the fender to help keep the fender from getting scratched. Basically you are eliminating the chrome upright mount in this mod.

Lay Down Or Not
I tried a mouse pad thing and didn't care how it looks, so I just bought two 3/4" nylon spacers and I used them instead. Look cleaner imo.

Lay Down Or Not
I laid mine down with a hunk of plastic apx 1/4" thick. I used bolts I removed from the stantion.
If I recall there were more bolts over all than I needed. Short bolts were not all used either. 2 longer 6mm bolts were moved from the upper bacling plate to the plastic mount, and 2 other bolts were nutted to the black lic plate holder. The 1/4 " think plastic was just a spacer and I made a paint to plastic gasket of rubber gasket material. I applied a heavy paste of car wax between the paint and the gasket. Space to install the lic plate was rather limited, since that had to be installed last. ![]()

That link only goes to your computer. You will have to download it on here or link to a public site so we can view it. Zoom45

Yup...Thats what that piece of rubber is shown in the pic. I used a piece of mouse pad for a cushion. It worked good.

After seeing the pictures I may consider doing the lay down for my license plate holder.

For those with 1600's not 1500's and I don't know about 1700's, there is NO gasket between the plate tand and paint, and there really needs to be. There is no factory gasket, so you need to fabricate one.
I found out too late, and did crack the paint, where rain was allowed under the paint. I drove out the water with a hair drier, and packed car wax in the cracks to stop more water from getting in. Wish I had known, since I do know the 1500 has a gasket like every other vehical I ever saw and worked on. Some damned bean counter save 0.01 cents per unit.
