REVISED Windshield lay back

When BD and Idaho speak, LISTEN. I rechecked the clearance between the OEM windshield brackets and the tank. They didn't touch, but I only had .020 clearance, a matchbook cover. Not a comfortable margin. I made a new set of brackets with the bolt holes 9/16" on center instead of 3/4". Now I've got .100 clearance, but I ran into another problem. The OEM windshield bolt heads were too big. I had 4 bolts with smaller heads and they worked great. Thanks for all the input , saved me some scratched paint and maybe a dent. We should all go to work for Ma Kaw R&D.

REVISED Windshield lay back

Good deal oldbiker! Glad I got to you before you dented your tank. Only by the grace of God did I put a towel down, other wise I would have f*cked up my tank for sure! When you told me how close your windshield was to your handlebars I thought Oh ho...

It's just my opinion, but I can't bring myself to believe that QC at MaKaw is so good that all windshields are mounted exactly the same. Before I used my dimensions on the brackets I'd measure clearances to be sure you don't make the same mistakes I did. Thanks to BD and Idaho I went back to the drawing board and didn't damage my bike.

I'd just like to see how your's came out then i can drill my own. Curious what type of metal you used and how it's bolted in place. Thanks!
