Position of Handlebar When You Park
Always turn the bars to the left, for the stability reasons given. If you need to stand the bike up a bit, after sitting on it before trying to lift it, simply turn the bars fully to the right. That makes it easier for the shorter inseamed folks to lift the bike off the stand.
I also never lock the forks (my bike is insured, if they want it that bad let em have it!) I also learned a long time ago to never park the bike facing down hill, and I always park it in gear to prevent any rolling while unattended.

I always leave mine to the left...like everyone else said, seems more stable.

Position of Handlebar When You Park
Yoda the problem I have when the bars are turned to the left is trying to turn them back to the right before I mount. It would easier if I were on the bike to turn them back to the right but with them turned to the left it makes it very difficult for me to mount. Therefore, I normally always park with mine straight ahead. If I am on level ground and that is normally 95% of the time there is no stability problem.
I do appreciate all the posts and reasons why you park the way you do.

Bars all the way to left. In addition, I put a foot-plate under the kickstand when parking in campgrounds.
The way we park our bikes in the garage, it's more convenient for me to mount from right side and I use the step-over technique. By doing so, I don't hit the saddle bags while swinging the leg over. Also, I put my lunch in to right saddle bag, it's easier to load/unload the right bag so I end up getting ready to ride on the right side and I just step-over and ride. |

Usually leave mine straight, unless I'm locking the forks.

That even makes it easier to get the bike up off the stand, just turn to bars fully to the right while still on the stand, but seated, and you will feel the bike start to stand up by itself.
