Throttle position adjustment

Looking for tips , or links to tips, on how to adjust the throttle on a 2002 Nomad 1500FI. I have quite a bit of slack/play when I twist the throttle, and would like to tighten it up. Thanks!

(tried searching, but every time I do, it takes a minute, then I get a white screen with an error message. Any tips on how to effectively search are welcomed too!).

Throttle position adjustment

The procedure is in the service manual. You do have a service manual, don't you?

In the search, you will save yourself some headache if you make sure it is not searching ALL the forum categories. i.e. If you want to search for throttle adjustment, search only in the "garage" section.

Throttle position adjustment

According to MOM (Motorcycle Owner's Manual) the procedure to adjust the throttle is.........
Loosen the locknuts at the upper ends of the throttle cables (near where they go into the housing at the grip), and screw both throttle cable adjusting nuts (long ones) in completely so as to give the throttle grip plenty of play. Turn out the deceleration cable (the one closest to you as sitting on the bike) adjusting nut just until there is no play when the throttle grip is completely closed, then tighten the locknut.
Turn the accelerator cable adjusting nut until 2~3mm (0.08~0.12 in.) of throttle grip play is obtained, then tighten the locknut.
As a side note, when you tighten the locknuts, use one wrench to hold the adjusting nut to keep it from moving, and use another wrench to turn the locknut with. Don't get crazy with tightening the locknuts, just get them a little tighter than snug.
I hope this helps out.

Thats easy as pie. And lube the idle adjustment cable as well. They tend to seize up easily.

Throttle position adjustment

Good advice on adjusting Cliff. Also to Steve as anything that can rust or bind needs lubrication. If you have problems let me know. I have the service manual and can PM you word for word what you need to do.
