Close Call Today

I was riding in on my way in to work this afternoon and was on a ramp to go westbound from a southbound highway. As I was traveling about 65mph, a car that was intending to go eastbound suddenly pulled to the right and came into my space, her rear wheel and my front wheel were side by side about 2" apart. I hit the brakes hard and locked up the bike for a second. I couldn't believe that we didn't make contact with each other. I pulled up next to her waving to get her attention and you could tell that she had no idea at all of what had just happened. Its a primarily chinese community in this town and Ive found them to be the absolute worst drivers in the planet. Its the second close call within a year in the same neighbourhood. I counted my blessings today, and hope idiots like this don't come in threes.

Some of the closest calls I have ever had actually occured in a Kia van over in Korea (Three traffic lanes mean five lanes of traffic, and red lights are just a suggestion, right?). There are so many people in such a small area, they naturally adapt to maniac driving. Glad that you weren't harmed.

I've had the same experience riding around in my town Ring, but here in East Texas it's little old ladies in Cadillacs you need to watch out for. They're oblivious to what's going on around them......and don't care.

Also, around here, the asian population is minimal. 25% of our population is hispanic and they drive very well. Probably because they don't want to get stopped and deported.

At the high school where I work its about 60% asian, when the parents come to pick up the kids its like a demolition derby in the parking lot on some days. Especially in the winter when there is snow making the parking lot smaller.
