Stock Tires
Hello All.
Is the stock Bridgestone rear tire (06 Nad) a bias ply or a radial ? Can I put a radial Avon Cobra tire on the front now and leave the stock Bridgestone on the rear for now as I want to do the driveline maintenance in the Spring and change the rear tire then. Thanks. The stock rear tire on my 06 is a bias.
From the thread below, it doesn't sound like a good idea to run a radial on the front and a bias on the rear. Quote:

Stock front and rear are bias ply.
It is my understanding that you can run..... Radial front and rear Radial rear, bias front Bias front and rear And not run a radial front with a bias rear

Hi to all,
I hear members mentioning putting a car tire on the rear. Is that actually a doable, good thing? What size and type would be the recommendation if someone was to do that? I need to change out the stock rear on my 06'.....I managed to get almost 16,000 kms. { 9000 miles I think} out of it ...... it's almost down to the wear bars so I'll ride it out for another month when my season comes to an end. Not usually much riding after the end of Oct. anyway. I might try doing it myself. I think I'll take macmac and others advice and do the swing arm, etc. service as well.

There is an entire Delphi forum dedicated to riders using car tires. They call it the Darkside. There are many types of bikes over there that have been converted.
I am a firm believer in "anything can be done, but it is personal preference whether it should be done." |

Rick I wasn't any error for me in anyway going with a Dunlop Sp Sport 5000 in 195/60 /R16. If there has to be a flaw I would find it under I can't have a directional tread pattern. No other flaws in handling or ride. Some will say doing this causes sluggish handling in lower speeds. I personaly appreciate that and I call it stabilty. With real mc tires like OEM which i consider junk, and Metzlers which i like, there was still squirrely handling in cracks, tar snakes gravel, wet grass and so on. With this tire it is just gone. I get better rear brake traction, and as I see it more stabilty in tight corners going at a good clip. As to swing arm service , well it's in the book. Right there in black and white and it says to do it at 7,500 miles. To me it is a simple must do, and not all that hard with the right tools. These tools are all basic except a lift, and a torque wrench, plus racthet ties, and a box or bucket to set the swing arm on STILL attached to the brake line. I will always answer as best I can to any one, all I can know to say about this. For me it wasn't any error, and i will never go back.
