Engine Noise

I have 2007 Nomad 1600. I have managed to put about 8500 miles since October of last year. I have no modifications done to the bike at all. Every once in a while the bike sounds like it back fires. It will only do it once when I first start it then it runs fine. Then when I am riding the bike especially when I push it the bike is noisy. I do not know if I would call it a ping or not. The bike has been to the shop and said there is no problem. It just does not sound good. Maybe this is normal. Is this just part of normal engine noise or what? I use gasoline from Shell or Mobile and I always use premium. I would make a lousy mechanic so I refer to those with more experience. Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Mine make a lot of noise too but everyone said its normal. What will help is a set of loud pipes. Then you'll be saying what noise.

Or you could use ear plugs. Welcome to the sight and I don't think I'd worry about the noise.

Like Fish said...a good set of pipes (I opted for the Vance and Hines Bagger Duals)...and all you'll be thinking is how AWESOME your bike sounds... !

Cheers...and welcome from the Great Pacific NW!

The Vulcan "V-Twin" is a noisy monster. I compare what mine sounds like to a "Bucket of bolts" being rattled around. I have going on 24,000 miles and it has always sounded like that. Synthetic oil will quieten it down some though, and make it shift better too. ;)

Mine sounds like a wash board band tuning up for a country fair. What you may be hearing is the cold air solenoids clicking & clacking away doing what they do. You may want to check "Gadget's" site for Vulcan noises..........-Rich

Or you can de-baffle! It is much less expensive and still sounds good.

I know, we're not helping you out much are we? My father-in-law hadn't riden in over 30 years when he bought his HD Deuce. He was surprised to find out how loud it was just shifting gears. If you don't feel comfortable with the noise your bike is making, and you don't quite believe the mechanics, try to find another KawaNOW rider close to you and go for a ride. See if that person would even feel comfortable switching bikes for 10 or 15 miles, and pay attention listening for the similar sounds and different sounds between the machines. That may help you better describe what is going on with your bike.

Mine doesn't have the cold air solenoids (they were removed 3 years ago when I installed the Thunder air kit), and it still sounds like a bucket of bolts.

If you wander over to the NorthCentral Region page you will find a number of members in IL. I would bet there is someone close to you and I believe they are trying to set up a meet soon.
