Battle of the Baggers!

Sept. 2008 "Motorcyclist" Mag. "Battle of the Baggers".

Vision, Goldwing, Utlraglide, Rocket III Touring.

First impression: We got slighted.

Final impression: Maybe good thing we did.

Other than a major win in the "price" category.... we may well have finished last.

Thoughts?

Road King, Boulevard, RS Silverado, Nomad

We'd do better in this comparo.

Battle of the Baggers!

I don't know.... all of those things are a little biased to me. Being in the car business, I see it all the time, how things are portrayed in one light or the other depending on which magazine you read. Of course, that would go to which manufacture is paying which magazine how much for their article!! I take all that crap, even Consumers Guide, with a grain of salt. Besides, how many different opinions will be given for the article? Point being, that what one rider likes and finds important, another might not think it's that important and not care if it's a + or a - ... hope I'm making sense here.

Long and short... the Nomad has some great qualities..and we can all agree that there are some areas where it could be improved. If not, then there wouldn't be ANY modifications!!! The same can be said for some of the other bikes you mentioned Nico.... I like a lot of them, but in different ways.

Those magazines are mostly dream books. They pander to our desire for Ducatis and Harleys when as a population we can mostly afford Hondas.

The Nomad would be first in the "Most Bagger For the Money" category. Did you notice Nomads were listed in the "Smart Money" column again?

To me this is important. Henry Ford didn't become a multi-millionaire by making the world's best car. He did it by making the best car that the common man could afford to own.

The Nomad isn't for movie stars, adrenaline junkies, or conspicuous consumers urged to flaunt their bankrolls. It's for the common man. Guys that want to travel in style and comfort on a machine they didn't have to mortgage their house and kids to buy.

That's what makes it a winner. NOBODY beats the value of a Nomad with a similar bike.

Nico, I agree. The Nomad belongs more in a "Classic" category versus the "Touring" category. The thing is, the 'mad does both (touring and cruising) incredibly well. No need having two separate bikes. It's major competition is the Road King and Road Star not the latte carrying Wing or the (boy I'm not exactly sure how to describe it--maybe scooter on steroids?!?) Vision.

It's definitely challenging the Gold Wing for the title of Most Complex Motorized Tupperware.

Wow...I didn't know what a Victory Vision was....you are right Caddman...scooter + Goldwing combined. Kinda cool in that it is different and lots of gadgets. I see major EXPENSE written all over it when time to fix/repair. Can you imagine the cost of replacing that tailight lens or any of the plastic? Ouch. I think the novelty would wear off and I would long for tha classic look of a real motorcycle...must be age!

Here is a link with lots of pics and a review. Looking at their website it doesn't look like Victory has any shaft drive or water cooled bikes at all.

Battle of the Baggers!

I have a friend with a Victory Vision. He calls it "the world's most comfortable motorcycle". It's a real nice bike, I'd love to take it for a spin. Next April, during AZ Bike Week I'm going to test ride one.

Battle of the Baggers!

It should be nice.

It costs between $20,000 & $30,000 depending on what options you get.
