Spectre Air Filter price

I keep seeing that some of you have purchased the Spectre air cleaner for the Caddmann intake mod for around 18 bux. Those must be old posts because all of them that I have found lately are $30. I have a K&N filter coming so I may just make a 9 inch lid to hold the K&N in place to go for a test ride to see if I'm going to like if before I spend another 30 bux. Yeah, I'm cheap. I did find a source for a Spectre setup with a K&N filter for $52. If I decide to keep the Caddmann mod I will buy one of those and offer this extra filter for sale here.

I saw the Spectre air filter assemblies at Autozone the other day, and I wasn't really paying attention, but I'm almost certain they were less than $20 each.

Doesn't your wife have an old sauce pan you can swipe the lid from? ;)

The filter isn't exactly 9" so something a little smaller will work.

PS: when I bought mine 4 years ago they were only $14 each. I guess demand has driven the price up.

Autozone still has them for less than $20. I got mine there last month.

The paper elements are about $8 here. I haven't seen the cloth ones for sale in a while.

Spectre Air Filter price

I found another brand at a NAPA parts store for 21bux. All of the Spectre filters here in Idaho are $29.99. Maybe we should start a parts clearing house to track down best prices. Of course with shipping even an $18 filter will be $28.

I appreciate you guys trying to help me out. Now I just need to get home to put this on the bike to see how it runs.
Thanks,

Hey Doc,

I'm going to try the Caddmann mod on the right side. Let that baby gulp down lot's of air. If I can stand the noise I may keep it that way.

I'm gonna do the same and see if there's a seat of the pants improvement over just the left side. I unhooked the ICS solenoids once and I didn't think the bike ran as good around town...which is every day riding to work. I don't know if I can handle the noise with the solenoids connected.

Okay, I got home today and everything was here, K&N arrived in the mail today and I had the filter that I bought in Boise with the chrome lid. (that was all I needed from that thing) Put the K&N on the right side. Takes a little bit of pushing on the ICS units to get them out of the way of the filter. It is still distorted but works. The bolt was the proper length on my 1600 so I did not have to root around for another one. Jumped on the bike and took it for a spin. The ICS units are noisey and would need to be disconnected. The bike stumbled and stalled when I eased it back into the garage. May be a little more punch on the low end, Jumped to 45 in a heartbeat in first gear. Right now I'm not to thrilled with the setup. I will have to disconnect the idle solenoids, which I don't want to do. Also I'm sure that I would be into the throttle even more than I am now which will reduce my mileage. Not crazy about that prospect. So, right now I am inclined to return to stock. I will let you all know what I decide.

I moved the Spectre filter to the right side last night. Removed the solenoids, and put the stock cover on the left side. That sucker is noisy (sounds like an air pump) at low speeds but you don't notice it once you get going. I do notice a buzzing sound now that I didn't hear before. Do those coaster reeds buzz?

Anyway...I notice a little more oomph from the bike. I'll run it for a while and see if it effects MPG too.

Hey idaho, try the K&N on the left side. No noise and it's much better than stock. You just have to block the intake on the backing plate. Also if you tighten down the K&N you'll distort the backing plate. I'd recommend a couple (i used 4) washers between the chrome cover and the threaded socket so that the cover tightens down tight without distorting the backing plate too much
