An auto's cabin filter.

I need to get out more. I never heard of a cabin filter.

A friend asked me if I had ever heard of a cabin filter for a car. I had never. So I looked in my owners manual and there was nothing. I looked on-line and found out my 2006 Monte Carlo has one. I called the dealer and was quoted close to $80.00 to change it.

So I went to O'Reillys and bought one for $15.00 and installed it in about 15 minutes. Glade I did, the original one was filthy after 4 years.

An auto's cabin filter.

Most european cars have had Cabin Air filters since about 2000? Depending on the model. My wife's VW beetle has one, so does my Mini Cooper. The price of them has come down especially if you find them at the local auto parts stores.
Be careful however, as most original equipment are Carbon filters and a lot of the auto stores are selling the paper element for cheap prices. Most you can get the charcoal filters from for a higher price, and they last longer and filter more odours better.
Many car care centres are now carrying and recommending to replace them. Most car owners have not replaced there's for years like you as were not aware they had them!!

They do help the AC units as well to be more effective when clean.

An auto's cabin filter.

I think most all of the newer cars have one. I guess I will be buying my own and installing it myself.

An auto's cabin filter.

Typically when you get your oil changed they'll bring out every filter you car has and ask if you want to replace them.

I sweare there seems to be a dozen of them

A cabin filter will be one of them.

I took my car to J.... Lube and the mechanic brought out a dirty air filter to show that it needed needed replacing. I had just replaced mine that morning. Needless to say, I haven't darkened J.... Lube's doorway since.

CJ I have heard horror stories of that as well. One story has one of those fast lube places changing oil and putting in NEW filters into cars. In fact what was happening is they pulled the car in, pretended to change the oil and put in new (but were only pumping in air and showing them a filter in the PAN of the drain in the floor (the rolling one they put under the car in the top of the pits) and also showing dirty filters that they actually did not replace either but charged for all the services. This apparently went on for months, but like you a few customers questioned items and they were caught and 2 arrested and the company fined. I know the name and from what I found out most of the story is true, but luckily it was quite a way from me in the big smoke!!! Greed can show up in any business, and there are always those who try to take advantage of you!!!

Glad you found out and hope you reported them!!!!

An auto's cabin filter.

My pickup and suburban have them located beneath the glove box. Dealer changed them once at over $60. Before then, I didn't know they existed.
