Avon Cobras Tire Pressure

For those of you running Avon Cobras what tire pressure are you using for the front and back tire? I recently put on a set of Cobra Avons and love them. I am running 38 in the front and 42 in the back. What about the rest of you?

Hmmm, I just got a set yesterday. I really ought to check ho much the tire guy put in 'em, but haven't. Not sure what should go in, so I'll be watching this topic too. :)

Avon Cobras Tire Pressure

In my Cobras, I run 42 in the front and 48 in the rear. I'm on my second rear Cobra, and that pressure worked well in the first one. I know some people have contacted Avon about the tire pressure for the Nomads, and if I remember correctly, I think they recommended the higher pressures.

I have a Cobra on the front and keep it at 40 psi. It shows very little wear after 8,000 miles. I'd keep the rear tire at 42 psi. Higher pressure will only wear out the center of the tire as I did mine. It only lasted 6,000 miles.

42F/44R I am a tad bit heavier than most people. presently have 10K on the tires and they are still looking pretty good after my latest trip.

I got a new set of Cobras 800 km ago and the tire guy put 36F/40R. I ride solo and weigh 180 lbs. Might try higher psi when I load the saddle bags.

I have pondered this alot since i too run Cobras. the higher the pressure the rougher the ride. the more you wear out the center while still having tons of rubber on the two outer edges. Ive toyed with the pressure alot. For a skinny fart and no passenger I like 32/36. if I add the wife and luggage Ill go to maybe 40/42. Mine are wearing well not doing the higher pressures and my ass thanks me too. :-)

Let me ask what is no doubt a dumb question. Why not run (air pressure) with what the manual recommends?

I guess because we took the OEM tires the manual was referring to? Sorry, that's all I got.

The manual is for OEM replacements - I no longer have OEM replacements on my bike, I have Avon Cobras. If you have OEMs on your bike then by all means read the manual and do what it says. Since I don't the manual suggestions may not produce the best performance with a different tire. I like to try to find what has been successful for others when I make a change to my bike. If you run only OEM products and nothing else then go ahead and follow the manual.
