Barons makes good stuff. I don't know about the mini tach but my wife has a Barons tach on her 900 LT and it is a quality unit.
$36.75 is damn inexpensive for a tach. Sounds like a deal to me.

OK, I just went to the website.
$36.75 is for the mount. The tach is $211.

Help with a purchase

Why don't motorcycle manufacturers put tachometers on their cruiser bikes? I rode my Nomad for a week or so and couldn't stand it without a tach so I put one on and it wasn't very cheap. They put tachs on pickup trucks with automatic transmissions...that I don't understand either.

Personally, I dont need a tach. If I dont know when to change gear by now I never will.

Help with a purchase

Before I bought my '09 I had a Honda 600 scooter - automatic - and it had a tach. I thought I'd need one for the Nomad too, so I asked the dealer about installing one. I think he quoted almost $400. I thought I'd wait until I had a spare $400. Yeh, like that will ever happen. Afterlearning to ride the motercycle for a month or so, I realized that I did't need the tach. I agree with redjay, it's just something you get used to.

Having a tach helps with useful tasks like setting your idle speed. You don't need one to ride the bike any more than you need a Speedo Healer to ride because you can't mentally deduct 10% from the indicated speed.

Probably most of us with tachs are gear heads, and want to see we are not seeking 6th gear.

Id prefer a gear indicator so I don't keep searching for sixth gear.

I struggled (as some of you know) with installing my Baron's tach - but it was well worth it, when I finally got it right! At a glance, you know if it's time to shift or not; especially needed as the Nomad engine is pretty smooth.

I installed the tach for this very reason. They have after market gear indicators Steve. They cost more than my tach did though
