Inexpensive tire repair kit / pump?
This summer I'm going to be doing a lot more travelling on the bike and have been building up a nice little emergency repair / tool kit to carry on the bike.
The only two pieces I'm now missing that I figure I should probably carry are a puncture repair kit and small pump. Has anybody ever used one of the inexpensive repair kits on ebay. Something like this: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Tubeless-Motorcyc...ht_3120wt_1162 I'm also looking for a really small compressor that ideally is powered off of a cigarette lighter adapter (hooked up to accessory connectors under seat) and is capable of blowing up the tires on my nomad no problem. Any feedback would be appreciated. Slick Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Inexpensive tire repair kit / pump?
Even when I had a bike tire on the rear of my bike I always carried that type of repair kit. It will at least get you down the road until you have the chance to get a inside patch in the tire. I've plugged many of other bikers tire on the side of the road with my kit, and they at least had a chance to make it home.
I've run bike tires thousands of miles with a plug in the tire. I don't see what makes people think the tire won't last very long with a plug in it. If the tire is new then when I get the chance I remove the tire from the rim and put a radial tire patch on the inside of it. I bought a new tire years ago and got less then 3 miles before I picked up a large nail!! I'll be damn if I was going to buy another rear tire so I removed it and put the radial patch on it and ran it for over 9000 miles! Now, on the CT I wouldn't think twice plugging the tire and not worrying about it ever. For air, I carry those CO 2 kits at all times. Inexpensive and lasts until you need them! .

I've used that type of repair kit for many years on my cars.
For the motorcycle, I have the Stop n Go tire plugger kit. http://www.stopngo.com/motorcycle.asp#tireplugger

Like many others here, I have the Stop-n-go kit and the Slime pump. Haven't used the kit (didn't have it when I really needed it) and the pump works fine.

K-Mart where I work carries a Craftsman pump that will fit nicely in the saddlebag.

I've also got the SLIME kit, 12v pump & can of SLIME, also carry a plug kit.
$35 or so and it hardly takes up any room. Cheeper then a tow truck!

You can get the same pump at Wa-lMart and the best I remember it was cheaper than the one you show from e-bay and just last month I used the plug kit from wal- mart it worked great.

Perfect.
Thanks for all the input guys. I ordered the plug kit off of ebay and found a small compressor at Canadian Tire for $14. So for a grand total of about $21 I should be covered. I like the looks of the stop and go kit and in the future may get the kit (minus the co2) but didn't feel like dropping $40 on it right now. Slick |

I carry a plug kit in the bike but have never needed it, I also carry one in the truck and have used it a few times, as recent as yesterday. I have worn out tires that Ive plugged and never give them a second thought.

Inexpensive tire repair kit / pump?
I just bought a plug kit tonight to plug a tire so I can take the bike for a new tire.
On Saturday we were ready to leave for the weekend when I notice it was flat. Sometime between backing it out of the shed and setting sail I picked upped a screw. I think it was from my sons car. :'(

Inexpensive tire repair kit / pump?
Food for thought:
You don't want to go cheap on gear like this. If you're stranded with a flat tire somewhere off the beaten path, out of cell phone range - that's not the time to find out your compressor isn't going to cut it. I'd hate for my survival to depend on a $12 air compressor. Just sayin...

I use a $6.99 Canadian Tire model. Actually its about a $15.00 unit that they put on sale sometimes.
