Remove plug wire?

I'm not really sure since I haven't had to do any work in that area. I went to Gadget's page and saw a diagram of the coil. It looks like it has a holder that you turn to loosen and I would think then it pulls out of the coil. Maybe someone else will give you a better answer. I wouldn't want to try and pull it off if it has a holder that twists to lock it in place.

I don't think you can remove the plug wire from the coil, if you want to change the wire only, you have to cut it off and use a connecter. The plug cap is replaceable at the end of the wire, it just unscrews and you install a new cap.

How would you be able to test the coil to see if it is working and if the coil was bad wouldnt it not work for both the plug wires comming off it?

The book doesn't say. By the look of the connectors i would say turn off the cap counter clockwise.

'IF' there is no spark on the offending wire, by tradin left and right plugs, and you also checked the non-sparking plug in the soarking other wire, even if the caps don't screw off it would mean to get new wires you need a new coil.

These days any thing goes. I recall wanting to unscrew these cables last year but I had no real need. The cap was on tighter than I wanted to force with no reason.

Have you traded plugs and checked? What happened?

I think the coil and spark plug cables are a one-piece unit on the Nomad.

Remove plug wire?

The book does show a meter in ohms with both plug cables used as part of the test.

Test A primary wires (the little ones) Note where each goes, then remove them both, set up the meter to 1K read on primary side 1.9-2.9 ohms

Test B (with plug cables on plug ends off)
18-28K ohms.

I am un-aware of any connectors to splice a plug cable.

The primary test will prove or not that the primary coil sie is working, which it must be if one plug fires. These windings are outside the 2ndary windings.

It doesn't make sence one plug doesn't fire, unless the plug cable, plug end resistor or plug are bad.

It doesn't make sence that the cable can't from free from the coil either, but it could be.

I searched gadjets for coil info and find color tune plugs only. I'ld like to see what he has to say.. linky please.

Another one of those deals where you can't just buy the part you need and replace it. You have to buy the whole darn thing even though you don't need it all. Just another way of gouging you for extra money.

Apparently you haven't tried to buy a fuel filter for a Nomad, have you Gene?

Remove plug wire?

You have two coils on the bike, if the other coil is creating a spark, try switching it with the bad coil and see what happens, if there is no spark its probably a bad coil, if it does create a spark check the wires that go to the bad coil in its original position.

Remove plug wire?

I forgot, many times the resistor end the plugs clip to will fail. These screw off and on the wire for sure.

IF both plugs fire on the good wire, then swap that resistor, good working resistor end to the bad side and re-test. it just might be that resistor is dead, and these shouldn't cost very much.
