Darkside questions

2 questions 1: Will a 205/60 fit with a chuckster hitch?

2: Does anyone make a 195/65 tire?

The 205 wide fits but just... Dunlop I believe makes a 195/ 65 R 16 SP 5000 size for now..

The 195/ 65 profile should still leave room for the hitches i have seen here.

sid, been searching the 195/65x16 hard for a while now.
dunlop and quite a few others offer 195/60x16 but no one offering the 195/65x16 in a car tire.
blowndodge found odd sizes (185/75x16???) in a conti off brand called "Vanco" that are van/truck tires. They no longer produce a Vanco2 model that comes in 195/65xR16 but i found there are still some in warehouses. I want that size but will probably settle for a 195/60xR16 so i don't start out with a tire that is already 2-3 years old

Check Vredestein for 195/65R-16

Tires are made in Holland and not all sizes are stocked in the states. Message Vredestein for input on distributor.
If you see one you like and can't find it through distributor, PM me and I'll tell you how to get it.

This brand is starting to get some play on Darkside forum.

On odd size tires make sure you are careful about the manufacture date. You definitely don't want something that has been sitting around in a warehouse for a few years.

Hey DK, I looked at their website and could not find a 195/65/16. Did you see one there?

The Comtrac and Comtrac Winter are both shown in 195/65-16.

I have a Quatrac 2 in 195/60-16 ordered

The new date code is 4 digits incase anyone doesn't know already.... For now the first has to be 0, but that will change in 2010 to 1. The first 2 being the year and the 2nd 2 being the week of the year...

ex: 0852 means year 08 and week 52 the last week of 08... This will be found inset in a oval shape one one side of the tire..

I would like to piggyback on this thread, with a darkside question. What brand\size are you darksiders running on your 02 1500 FI Nomads without any mounting problems or customization??

One more thing--how much change in speedo and rpm's?

So far as I know there is 3 guys here with 1500's that run Ct's.

2 i am pretty sure run Dunlop Sport SP 195/60 R16, and another ran one taller and had to do a little file work grinding..

Several of us including me run that same tire on 1600's.

dk; thanks for the info and it's interesting that they offer a 175/75x16 and a 195/65x16 in the Comtrac. The two sizes i was looking for. Iam very interested in the 195 option. interested in why you choose 195/60? Couldn't find speed rating and sidewall on Comtrac, you? I'll be joining you folks on the BRP ride in Sept and we can talk further then.
thanks again, Ross

Hey lonewolf....just looking ahead.
Dunlop has 10K on it and less than 4MM of thread left. Nowhere near what I was expecting out of it. 2MM left to wear bars. Figured I would go ahead and get something to put on before the end of the year.
I'll get at least 5-6K more, but that's about it. Not good as far as wear goes. Performance wise, no complaints. Still better wear than two m/c rear tires.....but not the 25-30K I've heard about.
Wear has a lot to do with the roads we ride. Maybe I'm too aggressive. ;)
I won't be buying another Dunlop SP 5000 for that reason....and hear being discontinued anyway.

trosco, Comtrac are "R" speed rated.
I decided to stay with 195/60 because I like the way it pulls the hills and mountains. Did not want to go to taller tire just to make speedo accurate. I use GPS anyway.

Hey Trosco, I am also looking at the 195/65 comtrac. My reasoning is the 195/60 raises the rpm at cruising speeds. I think. If not any one feel free to set me straight on that. Also will be on the BRP ride with my wifes cousin who lives in cumming Ga. I will be towing my bike to his house on sunday the 20th. Let me know if you find a dealer for the car tire.

i hear ya ! i should really get a tread guage and monitor it ! and like you have been pretty aggressive with my riding also. dont know if im still tryin to prove to my self that this tire is everything i hoped it would be and more. so far no complaints. have around 6,000 on it so far. but would not rule out a different tire than the SP if i dont get the mileage outta it but guarantee its gonna get me more than the 5800 i got off my stock stoner!!
