Question for the darksiders

Have you noticed any change in gas mileage (+ or -) since going to a car tire?

Question for the darksiders

Mileage, I would think, wouldn't be an issue. My mileage might have dropped but the 2 inch larger tire is now reporting less miles driven so it could be a wash. I've dropped about 150 rpms on the highway so in "theory" I could actually be getting better mileage there.

Question for the darksiders

My mileage has pretty much remained the same. However, I do have to compensate for the fact that my odometer is now reading 7.5% slower than actual miles when computing my mileage. The speedometer is dead on now. This is due to the fact that my tire is 10% taller than the stock. Before I changed to the C/T my speedometer was reading 10% slow and my odometer was reading 3% fast.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, If it does drop a bit, youll probably make up for it by travelling farther each tire revolution.

Question for the darksiders

The reason I ask is because on the Delphi forum a recent convert to the darkside was saying his mileage had gone down substantially. I didn't think it was due to the car tire though.

Question for the darksiders

I know mine dropped, bur I also did a lot of other things at the same time so hard to say what was the cause. Most things I read prior to the switch is 1-2 mpg drop, and that seems to be related to the weight of the CT by a lot of people.

Question for the darksiders

the speed at which you travel is the biggest reason for mileage fluctuations. One time I cruised at 60 with the old motorcycle tire (54 actual) on a lonely slightly twisty highway and got 45+ mpg's. Once I hit 75mph it's below 40...

Question for the darksiders

So what actual size and brand C/T are you all using. I have a friend that made the switch on his 2300 Triumph. Aparently the non dressor Triumph uses the same odd ball 170/70-16 tire my o7 Nad uses. He's using a BFG 170/75-16 Glass Belted Radial light truck tire but he has a lot more room for a rear tire than my nad does.

Question for the darksiders

Several of us run the Dunlop SP 5000 in a 195/60 R16, that is likely about the most popular size. BD has a more unique solution, can't recall the size and make, but I am sure he will fill that part in.

There are a lot of threads here about the options here, just go back a bit or do a search for the darkside threads.

Question for the darksiders

I'm running a 185/75/16 light truck tire. About the largest diameter you can fit without triming the top of the swing arm. It's also the narrowest car tire out there so it handles almost exactly like a motorcycle tire. It's also slightly rounded on the shoulders so it doesn't ride totally flat like some car tires do. You'll see it as Custer!

I am unaware of any Ct to fit a 1500, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. 180 wide is where to start looking.

Question for the darksiders

Curious as to whom you get to mount these car tires. Wouldn't do it myself and can't see a dealer doing it?

You would need to shop that around a bit to find a dealer. It seems that small independents are more likely to do it for you than larger corporate type places. A lot of people have had them mounted, but had to do some leg work to find a place to do it. I saw a list somewhere but can't recall where of places that have been known to do it around North America.
