Bike is down for repairs
Well finally said enough is enough! Cold weather and a bit of snow now have made me start the winter fixes to the Nad.
First project is the steering tree bearings. Removed the triple tree yesterday to find almost NO grease in there what so ever and the bearing damage from moisture. When the bike's front tire was off the ground, and I would turn the handlebars back and forth I could feel like what would be flat spots in the bearings. It would find detent right at straight center. Ordered new parts and will get that back together. http://s35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...ike%20repairs/ Next will be the swing arm clean and regrease w/zerk fitting and oh yes one zerk in the triple tree too. after that will be those stinkin leakin can plugs............ !! Then will just have to wait it out for a day to ride ![]()

Good luck with the repairs Chuckster. I hope your bottom steering race comes out a lot easier than mine did. It was wore down pretty thin and almost no lip to catch on to, to drive out. The bottom bearing fell apart when I lowered the steering stem to take it out.

I'll be checking my steering neck bearings as well before I ride the bike again. I think I'll wait for a warmer day though to do them.

So Chuckster, when you fix the leaking cam plugs, are you going to pull the engine and heads?
Keep us posted as I have the same issue on my rear jug. I have patched it with the high temp Perma-Seal, but it still tends to seep a bit.

Yes will be pulling the motor out the right side enough to get the rocker covers off, and along with the rocker boxes.
Will post a link to pics when I do that operation. Quote:

I just got done with those very same repairs. Make sure you follow the manual on seating the bearings . I had to take it all apart again the next day after hearing a clunk. - good luck

Bike is down for repairs
Today I made drivers to install the races and the lower bearing. Have the shop manual to follow as well.
Thanks for the tip Quote:
