I took a 140 mile trip this day. Was on State highways with open roads and a few hills. Speed limit was 60 MPH.

My Nomad is stock. Cobra setting 3-5-0

Made a mistake in my math :(" title="" border="0"/> MPG-39

Sorry about that

And if the speed limit was 75, like a lot of the roads out here, you'd have gotten 34 MPG. If I can keep at/under 60, I can easily hit 42-44 MPG.

At the speed of the ride and not stopping for much - 44 - 45 MPG

Very few hills and my speed was around 55 MPH. - I'm a old fart that likes to take her easy.

Rich on long trips you should be able to average 42 or a tad better. Around town I average about 35. By the way this is with the Cobra FI2000R. I owned my Nomad four months before I added the fuel processor and to be honest I did lose just a tad of MPG's after installing. It is still a great investment. My fan never comes on anymore. So I know the bike is running cooler. Never had a problem with pinging and still don't.

Hey Rich,I did lose 5-6 mpg with the 3-5-0 on my stock Nomad.I set it at 2-4-0 and I gained about 4-5mpg.I checked it again and I was at 35 mpg.My norm before the Cobra was 39-40.I guess it varies.Gives me an excuse to do a couple hundred mile trip to get a more accurate reading.I hope you are doing well.

With the nomad you can't go just part way, from the factory they are set very lean to meet the EPA regs. just adding a fuel controller you can add more fuel but you still don't have enough air but that is still not the answer now you must be able to exhaust this extra fuel and air and the stock pipes with the silencers (I see we are calling them silencers now for a long time we called them baffles) still have to much back pressure. an example I installed a TFI and open air kit on Jamie's bike and his MPG dropped to around 36 MPG after installing a set of aftermarket exhaust his MPG is around 40 to 41 and much better performance. I don't know for sure but if you could get rid of the goat bladder you might be able to keep the stock exhaust.

Cobra Fule Processor & MPG -MISTAKE!!

I got 41 MPG just yesterday driving the Interstate with the following:

Model: 03' 1500
speed: 70 -75 MPH (indicated) 65 - 70 MPH (actual)
Intake: Stock
Fuel Processor: Dobeck TFI @ recommended settings
Exhaust: V&H with stock baffles
Fuel: 87 Octane
Lubricant: Synthetic 5W-40
Tire pressure: RR- 42 PSI, FF 41 PSI
Trip length: 30 miles each way

It will do better when the wind isn't blowing so hard. I can get 42 to 43 MPG; riding two-up, but slowing to 60-65 MPH. This is in hilly terrain with a approximately 400 lbs of driver/passenger load.

Re-reading this after your math error, I'd say you're now running too rich - hence the decreased mileage. For a stock bike, you wouldn't turn the pots as high as you would on one with a more open intake and aftermarket pipes. You aren't moving enough air through the engine to require that much fuel. Even with an open intake and Cobra pipes, my mileage suffers some at 3-5-0.

With a stock set up you really don't need to set the pots very high! MAc will confire ( I hope) - in the stock config I got around 50 MPG @ 60 MPH - then with Cobra set at Pot 1 - 1 Pot 2 - 1.5 it dropped to around 45 ish. Now after Chuckster's single intake / V&H front pipes c/w Supertrapps SE mufflers - it is around 46 ish - lower if I punch it - better if I slow down. However, the performance is much better - no ping / no hesitation off idle / no stalling at lights/ pulls way better up hills and with trailer / fan hardly ever comes on.

yeah been in the wood pile. And th book settings are just a bae starting pint. It IS assumed you have a after market exhaust and a after market intake.

If you don't these book settings won't even be close, and the numbers would be lesser.

I wish they didn't even give base settings, because they may, and probably won't match much in the first place.

Just setting these settings to book spec and calling it good, is not how this is done.

Scott - Still trying to understand what the different setting mean. What would you suggest for a stock Nomad?

I took another trip this day - 245 miles on a Scenic Byway. Speeds at 55-60 MPH. My MPG was right at 40.

Mac - I hear ya but I am at a lost in understanding how to set the pots on the Cobra. But, I will keep trying. :)
