brake light

Doe's anyone else have repeated trouble with the rear brake pedal, brake light...... I've had trouble with mine 3 or 4 times. It's an o6 nomad. When I have trouble with ( it staying on all the time) it, I can oil it or take it off and work it etc, and it's ok for awhile, but, about the time you forget about the problem, it is back again....

On my 2001, I was having trouble with my rear brake pedal keeping the brake light on a couple years ago too. I fiddled around with the adjustments down near the pedal that are connected to the spring, and it started working correctly again. Must have been sticking or something, but has been doing OK since.

You should clean it before you oil it, if that doesn't fix it for a good long time Id replace the switch. It may be defective.

I would check the switch out, seems like it is sticking and keeping the brake light on. Clean it good and then lubricate.

I'll try giving it a good cleaning first, per your instructions.. Maybe that's where I was going wrong.. Probably, no wonder it gives trouble, since it's down there in the path of all the road grime that gets thrown up by the front tire, etc..... I'm not complaning though. I've had the bike over 4 years now, and that's the only problem I've had. It's always raring to go anyplace I want to go, no matter how far, or whatever.

My 06 did the same thing - I had it apart so many times I thought I wore it out! It's all in the adjustment - you got to get the travel just right - not too loose and not too tight - the spring eyelets cannot be vertical - for some reason they must face horizontal other wise there is binding in both ends where the eyelet attaches to the rod on the switch and the pedal. Mine has been good ( knock on wood) for a couple of years now!

Clean the switch and check the adjustment. The pin that is pulled down by the spring had a band of metal around it. When pulled down to far it hangs up on the contacts inside the switch. My '08 did it and it drove me nuts until I stumbled across this.

I even replaced the spring a couple seasons ago, I just happened to have a similar one in the garage thats worked perfectly ever since I installed it.
