The wonderful state of Utah: where the lottery is illegal because it is immoral, but tax gouging is not. The only state in the west to require a saftey inspection yet, statistically, our roads are not any safer.

$120 for an inspection? Geezus, I thought New York was the land of taxes. Ours is $25 and I thought that was bad. Well I still do think it is bad!

Safety inspection

Its strange how some regulations are mandatory in different areas, Here in Ontario we just have do a safety inspection on cars and bikes when they change title, unlees they are commercial trucks. In Saskachewan there is no inspection required, you can buy a writeoff from someone and ride home if it is able.

Well technically the 120 goes to the state of Utah to renew the registration but I still have to pay some chump mechanic to do the inspection which is B.S. ---> http://www.math.byu.edu/~bill/Safety-Emission-Regs/

Safety inspection

The price of Virginia's annual safety inspections are (right now) $12.00 for a motorcycle and $16.00 for a car/truck-- which, after seeing the price of Wolfman's is not worth complaining about.

There is talk in Richmond about changing the inspections to every 2 years and raising the price to $28.00 for cars/trucks. Most of the money from the safety inspection goes to the garage for the labor involved. Every two years has its pros and cons. It will put an extra burden on us to look at vehicle's much more closely on a traffic stop.

I would submit to you that 60% of the general population are absolutely clueless about mechanical safety on the vehicles they drive. I had one girl tell me that "a vehicle shouldn't start if it is not safe and since mine started it must be okay." GO FIGURE?!

Some people definitely need the independent safety inspections just to know what repairs need to be made. It can be a true life safer when it comes to things like brakes and tires. I have literally towed a few "unsafe" vehicles after I stop them because they are in such bad condition. Sometimes it is because they do not have the money to get the vehicle fixed. Other times they are simply "stupefied" as to how a vehicle works. Y'all have a friend, neighbor, or relative like that, right?

I hate taking my vehicles in for inspection but...I also feel it is a necessary evil.

YES! And I quote my older sister: "Why would anyone buy new tires when their car comes with tires?"

DUI - "A Washington Post investigation found that in a recent year, about 600 out of 4,300 inspection stations in Virginia issued no rejection stickers at all." - From the link I posted above

That is classic Wolfman. One for the books. I have two daughters...23 and 21 years old. I have tried to teach them as much as I can about vehicles and it has been an uphill journey. My youngest said, "Dad, why do I need to learn how to change a tire when I can get a guy to do it for me?" She has actually had to use that logic and has had great success. It made me think..."WHO THE DUMMY NOW?"

OK if I add in my registration fee of $57.55 it brings mine to $82.55. Still not as bad as yours but bad enough.

California = No safety inspection - No MC smog inspection....

Can you believe that? Someone's asleep at the switch, else they'd be all over the opportunity to lighten our wallets some more.

Safety inspection

Here, with us in the Netherlands motorcycles have at this moment no annual inspection required, passenger cars and trucks must have an annual inspection.

In the future, the government will descripe an annual inspection for motorcycles, after safety inspections, there shall be an inspection on exhaust noise and emission, so I'm glad that I have my complete O.E.M. exhaust system (now I have V&H baggers mounted)
