Exhaust Baffles

Due to the threat of a increase in fines in NYS (from $100. to $700.) I am thinking of installing baffles in my Cobra Slash Cuts on my 05 Nomad. Wanted to know if anyone has had experience installing baffles in the Cobras ??? I am not looking for a lecture or argument on after market pipes. Just want to know if anyone has fitted baffles in the Cobras. Thanks to all that reply.

You can put baffles in anything if you have a drill and or a welder, I welder a washer in each pipe of a Honda one time to make it quieter, just get some baffles the right OD for the ID of the pipes and slide them in if they have a taped hole in them then drill a hole in your pipes to match if one is not already there, if the baffles don't have a taped hole then just drill a hole through the pipe and baffle and screw a self tapping screw in it. J&P sells baffles. Hope this helps

Exhaust Baffles

I'm playing around with my de-baffled pipes. I welded a bolt in a 1 3/4 piece of pipe to similate what some did with the V&H machined plates on this forum. After inserting them it made it sound stock again but it created the lost back pressure. I wasn't happy with the sound so I'm doing some more experimenting. Yes you can modify anything with tools and an imagination.

rabbit, what part of NYS are you in? Your profile doesen't list it.
Where did you hear of this increase in fines for loud pipes?

Thanks for the info on the pipes. There is already baffles in the Cobras, but I am afraid they may be over the DB limit.
Muffler law has been reported by ABATE, NY and various MC magizines but hasn't been passed by our politicians yet. There is also legislation that you must have a DOT approved helmet with a DOT sticker on the back. I have a painting on my helmet, so I am illegal. "PLUS" the state is taking some of the monies that the feds give the state for MC safety and giving it to the State Police to have motorcycle road blocks (ask someone who went to Americade, last year). I live in the Adirondacks (Minerva), land of the free, SO FAR :(" title="" border="0"/>

Doc, that's the way I like them. They are debaffled though. Nice low rumble.

rabbit, I know I'm going to take flack for this from some members here but I have always said, if we can't police ourselves then the government ( state/federal ) will do it for us.
Loud pipes have been a problem for years. John Q Public has finally got the attention of the authorities and now we will all pay for the idiots who just had to run straight pipes and piss everyone off.
As far as helmets go I always wear a fullface. I used to think everyone should wear a fullface. I have changed my stance on that. If some guys want to wear a do-rag or beanie or half helmet that's their business not mine. Skip the commentary CJ
JOIN THE AMERICAN MOTORCYCLIST ASSOCIATION , they fight this crap for us.

edit; I went to Americade last year and never got stopped in a road block. As a matter of fact I never even saw a road block. I was there Monday through Thursday. Maybe they weren't set up yet.
