Painting the Nomad

I'm probably going to freshen up the paint on my nad this winter.
I was looking it over and noticed that it has a lot of trim on it.

How do people handle this when painting?

And what do you mean by "freshen up?" If it is to be the same color, you might get away with a good masking. If you are re-painting, remove the badges and anything else possible.

If you have pin-striping, don't paint over it. Eventually, it will begin flaking.

I was mostly thinking of the stripes on the bags.
They would take hours of tedious masking, and they appear to be sticky backed.. Are these aailable, or are they just a loss?

They do not show on any parts diagrams for the Nomad, they come with the saddlebag lid. I think you either have them masked (difficult as you said), paint them (likely would not hold) or remove them and either leave the bag without or find a substitute.

I wouldn't think the bags would take that long to mask. Tape over the stripes, use an exacto knife or razor blade to cut the excess tape.

Given my lack of painting experience, what am I missing?

You could always do a little body work and get rid of them... that's how mine are and they look great.
I will be posting some pics of them and the whole bike soon. Just waiting for the paint to cure so I can wet sand and buff.

There was a thread on here about replacing them cheaply but I don't remember where it was. Anyone else remember?

Some guys buy chrome strip material at an auto parts store and cut it to fit he bags,
I had my painter remove the strips, sand down where they were and just repaint the bags when he did ny bike.
I think they look OK.

Oh, they are available individually, but if I recall, they are around $40 EACH. Do the math...

Yah, saw that on the Gadget site link someone posted. I was looking at the online microfiche and they were not listed there, but obviously it is not complete. :)
