"NEW" Chuckster backing plate (Update Pg 6)

"New" Chuckster backing plate allowing use of 7" K&N filter.

Joe (Chuckster) sent these pictures showing plate, prototype installed, and plate with 7" K&N filter installed.

This is an option to using a Thunder Mfg backing plate, which is 200.00+ compared to 40.00 (shipped) for Chuckster if you are planning to remove all the plumbing, solenoids, etc.

Also an option to using a 7" filter instead of 9" on Caddman mod.
I did the Caddman mod, but was looking for alternative to using 9" filter.

And last, but not least, "should" be able to use stock dog bowls if you do not like exposed filter look.

I ordered one which should be shipped today. I plan to use the stock "dog bowls," which IMO just look better than exposed filter.

Hopefully, Joe will jump in here with a little more tech information. ;)

Chuckster emailed me on Saturday, telling me he had these available. I immediately ordered one from him, along with one of these:

This is the best deal you'll find on a 7" K&N filter assembly AND the price includes shipping. The usual going rate for one is ~$70, I've seen some as high as $139

I'm hoping everything arrives this week and I'll have this set up next weekend. I'm doing about a 400 mile ride next Sunday.

No, but since there is no opening in the plate for it, it becomes useless.

Yeah, it is a 7x3. I don't think K&N makes a 7x2 that's compatible. I don't care, personally. I can live with it.

Speaking of which, I won't have a need for my 9" Spectre Filter assembly with the 9x2 K&N filter any longer once I get this done. If interested, PM me with an offer.

Only had my 2008 Nomad for a couple weeks, so I'm apprehensive to start ripping out engine parts while I'm still in the motor break-in period. I understand that removing the crossover tube pretty much destroys it. I won't do anything that I can't reverse.

But I'm looking to make it breathe easier and keep the stock pipes. Perhaps remove the silencers eventually.

I also want to keep the stock air cleaner on the left side and a balanced look for both sides.

Will this backing plate allow this?
