Kind of a sad day, today.....

Today I trailered my bike 60 miles to the dealership in Vicksburg to get the 500 mile oil change and service (even though I have 693 miles on her already, I've only had her 12 days). They'll keep her a few days, and hopefull, on Monday or Tuesday when the weather is nicer, I can get a ride over there and ride her home. The good thing is that the weather sucks this weekend in Mississippi. Supposed to rain and be cold pretty much all weekend, so this is the perfect weekend to take care of this........
While I was at the dealership they showed me a brand new '09 1700 Vulcan Classic (just got in today). She was a beauty, but nothing compared to my Nad. I was also there long enough for Debbie (salesperson) to tell me that my only addon so far (highway pegs) looked cheap (well, they didn't go with the bike is what she actually said, being nice), and that I needed to take them off. So I guess my next thing will be to get some nicer pegs.. I also went ahead and bought a Vista Cruise throttle lock (last one they had) and they're going to put that on for me. My right arm or hand doesn't get tired, it's just that every once in a while I'd like to stretch it out and rest it on my knee like I do my left. Not both at the same time, mind you.

Man, I'm looking forward to that rally in Eureka Springs in May. I've reserved room #7 for that Friday and Saturday night. Hope the weather is decent so I can make that 400 mile trip without having to trailer my bike. Jamie

You realize the different pegs will be just one of many 'improvements'...

Jamie,
Did I not tell you in a recent post that you be soon going down this road called Mod Blvd...??? For a great set of Hwy pegs....go with the Kuryakyn Longhorn Dually ISO pegs. Shop around, but they aren't cheap anywhere....$130-145.00 I suspect with shipping....more or less. Ah....you are where I was about nine months and $3500 or so ago.... ! Have fun and just ask here if you need more info about add-ons.... ;)!

Oh my... I've heard of this horror story before... just like the stories of addicts on "crack-cocaine" or "meth"... once hooked, there is no stopping the addiction.

I can see it now... "Hello... my name is Jamiep24... I am a chromoholic.

Have fun and remember... you're helping the economy by purchasing products.

That dealer must be busy! Unless the weather was poor to have to trailer your ride to the dealer, I figure you should be able to wait on the 500 mile service. shouldn't take too long to change the oil, filter and final drive oil. (plus whatever else they "inspect and adjust". IMO should take maybe an hour of work time. Just seems strange to keep a bike for a few days for a minor service.

You'll enjoy the cruise control.

If the highway pegs you have work for you, then don't let a salesperson influence you, let alone say they "needed to be taken off". I would have several responses to that line.

I'm with KenBob on the peg deal. I would have told the young lady :-/ the pegs work fine for me and they are staying unless she wanted to spring for an expensive set.
I have $30 highway pegs on my Nomad. They work just as good as $130 pegs.
Don't tell me the over priced Kurys are adjustable so worth the extra 'cause once you get them where you want them you aren't going to move them anyway.

8000 miles and she's never seen the dealer. Just change the oil and she's good to go!

Good luck with the Nomad. Remember, the only opinion on add-ons that matters is yours. It's amazing how much people want to change your bike their way with your money. If it works for you, screw everyone else. The best thing to save the money for is gas in the tank.

Yeah, the weather was horrible yesterday, raining hard and about 45 degrees. And I got there just before closing on Friday and they're only open from 9 to 2 on Saturdays so I figured it'd be Monday or Tuesday before they call me and it supposed to be nice and 75 on those days so I'll get my son to drop me off on his way home and I'll drive it back, can't wait. And yeah, those 30$ pegs look pretty nice to me or I wouldn't have bought them.

If its any consolation Jamie, the weather here in Texas has been cold and rainy all week. This weekend is no exception.

Maybe next week.

If the pegs work for you, then don't let anyone bother you. I would love to add all kinds of chrome and use the "best"most expensive add-ons. The only problem is that I'm not independently wealthy! I have to be practical and I go for what works and what performs. If somebody doesn't like what you got, let them pay for it.
