Ride to Arches (UT) in May - Suggestions?

I am looking to meet up with a friend from CA in May out in Moab, UT. Looking to do a day tour of Arches, etc. Any thoughts or a good route to follow (including watering holes, fuel, etc). Is Monument Valley worth the trip?

Greetings! In Moab, you can expect hot days and cool nights that time of year. The scenery is absolutely spectacular. I rode through Moab last summer on my way from Salt Lake City back to Phoenix. Don't stay in the town of Blanding, UT - they don't sell any alcohol there, not even beer.

Here's a couple of photos I took in Monument Valley last June. You tell me if it's worth the trip...

A trip anywhere is worth the trip.

Even a ride to the 7-11 is a trip if you're using a Nomad to get there.

Cactus,
Wow - those pics make me want to go tomorrow! (If I didn't have to travel through Vail Pass, I would go in March) Thanks! And I do take the Nomad to the local grocery store whenever the wife needs anything and it's not icy/snowy out. (The store is only 1/4 mile away - but a ride is a ride) ;)

Yeah, I can hop on the Nomad to go buy a gallon of milk from the Albertson's 3 miles away and be gone for 90 minutes. ::)

The smaller picture on the right in my sig pics was taken along that long, straight highway that runs through Monument Valley. It really is an impressive sight.

There are good camping spots on BLM property along the Colorado just outside of town. See everything you have time for, because you won't have enough time. Moab is the worlds largest adult playground.... Have fun

Goblin Valley is nearby

I went this route last summer click here It is a good ride and much better than I-70 :(
There is also a great car museum in Gateway along that route

This is just outside of Gateway (still Colorado).

Moab is just on the other side of this mountain, this route takes along the left side of it and around to Moab. It's much more scenic than I-70 into Utah

Canyonlands Natl Park is where my sig pic is taken, and it is a good ride besides seeing Arches Natl Park click here

The river road just north of town is a good road click here

And any picture along any one of these roads will make a great sig pic :)

I took a trip to Kanab, UT in October of 2007. Loved every minute. Rode Monument Valley, Grand Canyon and went through about every park there is in Utah including Arches. Plan to go back.

You can click here for my trip report........ http://www.hilliard.ws/utah/utah.htm
