Paint for Trunk - Match 2005 Blue - Silver (Cheap)

Hey All,

Many said they wanted to know if I could find any paint for the Venture Trunk I am painting for my 05 1600 Nomad, so I thought I would post my findings in a new thread. I just couldn't bring myself to pay the money they wanted for the ColorRite Paint. And the local body shop wanted $500.00 to paint it ::) ::) ::)

So, I took the saddle bag off the bike and headed to the Auto Zone. I really didn't expect to find anything there, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The paint for the blue is called "Dupli-Color" (Truck, Van, & SUV Paint) Stock # 468744 The number on the can is: 2691690256 T256 Dark Blue (M)

The paint for the silver is "Dupli-Color" (Import Auto Spray) Stock #154946 The number on the can is #8801530 Silver (M)

If they don't end up being an exact match, they will be so close you won't be able to tell they are not.

Total cost including two cans of clear coat $31.45. Which is less than they want for one spray can of the ColorRite Stuff. ???

Hope that helps,
John

Are we talking rattle cans? Holy S**T! Every parts store in town here carries Dupli-Color. You gotta post some pics when you get it done. Perhaps I will try my hand at matching the green myself as well.

Yes, they are the rattle cans. Pics with be forthcoming when the trunk is done. I just sprayed the bottom of the trunk and so far the color looks great! If this works out, I will be more than a happy camper

A local auto paint supplier (they sell PPG) near me can color match anything you bring into them. They use a camera like "reader" to scan the paint. Once they get the paint code they can make rattle cans ($15 each) in single stage or two stage. They also make touch up bottles with a couple of ounces in them ($5 or $6). Not as cheap as off the shelf paint but they've matched my 03 gold.
