Finally solved my mystery vibration noise

I hope this helps some of you out there which is my reason for posting.

I have been chasing an illusive vibrating noise almost since my bike was new. It got worse early last spring. Usually I wear earbuds and it's was not so bad that I could hear it, but when I did not have the earbuds in it was irritating.

It occurred only between the 43 to 46 mph range. I had already done all the known things when the bike was new, headlight bucket etc.

So I went out the other day to a road with no traffic on it and rode 45mph and started fiddling with everything I could reach on the bike to try to determine where it was coming from.......here's the culprit...

It was this fork cover panel. It was tight it seemed and I still don't know if it was rattling against the fork, or if it was the outer skin rattling against the brace built into it. Either way...I put a small plastic shim between the brace and the outer skin...and put a very small piece of foam between the cover and the fork itself.......reinstalled and tightened and.......

Vibration noise gone!!

I may have the only Nomad with this happening but if you are chasing a noise, maybe this will help ya ;) ;)

I had a buzz that came from behind me and found it was my right rear crash bar was loose only the top bolt. I don't know if this is ann item the dealer installs but now its fixed. Like Todd it drove me nuts.

i posted this in this forum somewhere as I had a buzz behind me as well...here is what i did:

crunk up the NAD and heard a recurring BUZZ behind me....i have been running thru the gears and hearing this BUZZ on every ride...friends trailing me even tell me they hear it....so, crank up. isolate general area....left side behind saddlebag...so, take off saddle bags, and take off grab rails/back rest...under the chrome "chain guard filler thing"...3 hex head screws/bolts...those were the culprits...BOTH sides were loose, very loose

Aloha

I had the same thing on my 2006. I ended up putting a rubber washer on the allen bolt between the cover and the triple tree. That has worked. It would be sooooo easy for Kaw corp to just do these things at the start, you know they have had complaints! ???

Todd,
I've been chasing a rattle on mine for the last month or so. I thought it was the light bucket becoming loose (I even posted it as a warning), but the other day I was riding and found that was not it. I too have been chasing this rattle and can't find it. It happens to me at around the 2200-2400RPM range.

So, I'll take your suggestion and look.

Hey BD, I'd be careful...that buzzing behind you might be SWB or Trip sneakin' up on ya with a vibrator in their pocket

Todd, I've noticed that same noise at the same speed. Thanks for checking and identifying it. As for that buzzing sound...what?...Todd?...He's the one with the vibrator?

Run BD!!!

I had a bad rattle that sounded like the rear drive had something that came apart. It didn't affect the performance but was horrible at about 50 mph. I finally figured out a heat shield clamp on the right side was loose and only rattled at certain speeds.

"maybe I should point out exactly what I am talking about".....so I used the editor on photobucket and drew it in.....don't know if it had an arrow somewhere on the editor or not.....didn't take the time to look.........but I did get out to ride before the rain got here
