Question about crankcase filter

Question: The mod that Trip done recently would that quieten the air pumping sound that the crankcase breather hose makes inside the right air filter. Since I did the cadd kit on the right, I can hear the crankcase breather thangy just a pumping and drives me crazy. So I was thinking would putting the filter on it like Trip did and routing it somewhere? would it be quiet? Any input would be appreciated. Thx

Doc ;)

Question about crankcase filter

Doc I am not aware of what trip did. It is possible to remount the breather hose, several ways. One way, again repeating I have no idea what trip or anyone else has done is to replace the hose, so as not to cut the molded hose and add a air filter to it. Relocating the hose and filter almost any where you wish. The hose should go up more than down.

I have seen cans made with baffels in them that trap oil fumes and can be collected in the lower portion of the can, for draining as waste at maint intervals.

Something else you might try is to buy a flame arrestor for a vintage 1984 Turbo volvo and mod it to fit the hose. basicly this flame trap looks like a ciggy butt lighter element, and it installs in a some what larger hose on the said car.. it would reduced the frequency of air modulation which some how you can hear..

The filters on these hoses are to keep crap and bugs out, not to filter anything. In the old days the hose was just turned down and cut off on a angle with the leading edge foremost.

Question about crankcase filter

....hey Doc... I'm not sure what noise you are talkking about. I did the crankcase filter mod, not because of any noise I was hearing. Are you sure its coming from the crankcase hose? The filter mod is easy to do and doesn't cost much. Besides, its a nice piece of chrome and we can all use a bit more of that! :)

Question about crankcase filter

YES, Im sure its the crankcase breather outlet which is at 6pm in the right air filter backing plate. have your bike idling and put your finger over that hole for a second, its beautifully quiet. You can hear every pulse of the V-twin through that hole and its sounds rel airy. Just trying to eliminate that or reduce it.

Question about crankcase filter

....well, I probably couldn't hear it before I installed the filter cause of all the other clangs, clicks, bangs, rattles and clatter that our beloved Nomads like to share with us!
