burning smell on acceleration only

Recently I get a "burning" smell on acceleration only on my '05 Nomad 1600. It's not noticeable until the bike is well warmed up and seems worse after the bike is restarted after stopping for a meal for example. It does not smell like fuel, oil,or coolant,or that acrid electrical odor. I removed the fuel tank and tightened all hose lamps even though I can see no evidence of any leakage anywhere and it made no difference. The bike runs very well and makes no unusual noises. I'm thinking maybe an exhaust leak? Anyone experience anything like this particularly the guys whose V&H pipes cracked? Where does that crack generally occur?
Thanks for any help
Bob

crankcase breather hose pinched? popped off completely maybe? Overfilled on your last oil change? Just throwing out some ideas Bob...

I had something similar once......picked up a plastic bag on the pipes and it took forever for it to go away...even after cleaning all I could off.

You know that's what it smells like. I can't see anything on them but once it cools fully I'm going to remove the heat shields and see if anything has gotten behind them. Thanks for the idea.

No kinked hose that I can find and pipes look ok. Maybe I'll try scrubbing them with something tomorrow anyway. Have to go out for dinner now. Thanks fellas. I'll let you know if I ever get it figured out.

I think you'd actually have to ride your bike to pick up a plastic bag on your exhaust system. Your only worry should be stale gas or flat spots on your tires from sitting in one place.

Remember what I told you. Sprinkle corn starch on the wax before you buff it off. No swirl marks!

Since the only recent work done on the bike was rear wheel removal for a new tire which did involve unbolting the left muffler I decided to start my trial and error there even though visually everything looked ok. I loosened the rear cylinder exhaust and then refiitted it carefully to the head. I was able to take a good long test ride and NO MORE SMELL. Now I can enjoy the ride again without being obsessed by wondering what's wrong.

Maybe the right side cover seated, has a scorched leading edge behind the rear head pipe. Mine does...

If you have a goat bladder the rubber mounts tend to stink untill the crack and break up...
