POG went out today

I was really looking forward to a great ride with my wife today but only made it four miles when my oil light came on and I knew exactly what was wrong...the POG!!!

I had heard some "ticking" on Friday, and had thought about posting something about it, but had put it off...bad idea. Now I have to replace the Plastic Oil Gear and will be checking out Gadget's page to figure out the best way to do it (I assume it will be with Judge's Oil Gear). I just wish that I didn't have to deal with this right now...with everything else going on, I really didn't want to have to tear apart the bike. Man, and the weather is only going to be nice for a few more weeks around here.

If anybody has some great advice, I'd be willing to listen.
Rich

I think you need to talk to coacha. He ordered one from Judge not long ago. Just be patient when trying to get Judge, he's on the road alot. And I may still have his phone# at home if you need it.

I was under the impression Kawasaki would stand behind that . Have you talked to a dealer about it?

Yeah, but it's a fairly new shop and they really didn't know what they were talking about. Maybe I'll get in touch with the shop up in Eugene.

the real fix is a pull the engine all the way out of the frame and tear into it. If you can get a dealer to do it on Kawi's dime, I'd go wherever it took.

I too would try to get Kawasaki to cover it, regardless of where I had to take the bike. Depending on the mileage it a good time to freshen up the motor if it needs it since it is already apart.

I think there is a recall, sort of, meaning when it dies, Ma kawii will fix it, but not more damage caused by it... I feel Kawii should have RECALLED them all by notice since all of these gears are on borrowed time in the first place.

Other than that the Judges gear is the way to go... ouch!

Rksaw,

Sent you info on contacting Judge. He is the one who helped me with Kawasaki. The dealer who did mine had to have a call from Kawasaki to "influence" them as this would be covered by MaKaw.

It happened to my 99, and I rode a bit with it (at that time the pog wasn't a known issue). Perhaps a few miles. Mine was replaced under the factory warranty, it happened in the first of second year.

There was no other damage and I went on to put 63,000 miles on it, and only sold it because it was out of extended warranty and it was time to start over.

It's just too bad that it didn't wait a few more months and catch you in the off season.

Check Gadget's site. He had a very helpful page on it. (and on getting Kawasaki to cover it).

BTW. If I remember right (and that is not always a sure thing!), can't you replace that gear without removing the engine?

Anyway, hope you can get it fixed quickly.

Doug
