Fuel capacity on 02 nomad?

My now stolen 01 ran out 140 miles before I needed more fuel. Due to the way the fuel pick up with a filter you can't access 'all' the fuel there is in there. Once the filter sucks air the pump will drop fuel pressure like a hot rock and the engine will stall.

In the event that one day you really do run out of fuel and get stopped right where you are, wag the bike as hard as you can and tilt it left as seated harder, to slosh fuel over the hump.

That might get you another 5 to 10 miles before you need hiking boots.

It is very un-wise to run the bike after the yellow warning light comes on and stays on steady in the first place, since the internal pump needs the fuel for external cooling.

At first flicker I am hunting fuel.

Fuel capacity on 02 nomad?

I had 150 on the trip meter at the gas station, gps said 144 = 4% high, the speedo is about 8% high, so I got 39-40 mpg's on that tank. Took 3.7 gal, so I'm gonna say it is a 4.2 tank and I better find fuel at 140 miles. I did read the spec page and says 5 gal for 02 only, maybe kaw realized the pump and filter take up .5 gal? all other yrs say 4.2.

I have a kawii book and it says 16 liters, but I don't know what 16 liters is... I have no gps, and won't.. Maps are my style of getting places and when that don't work I use the getting lost method, which always works...

I owned the 01 361 days.. before it was stolen. I rode it to Cal which was easy under the lost method. I ran from the sun till noon, then i chased it. Same thing getting back east in reverse, but I hit Florida instead of new hampster.

Some where there, still using 'lost' I ended up in Arkansas. But always 140 miles on the un-corrected clock told me I needed more gas.. I got latitude problems...

Fuel capacity on 02 nomad?

My bike is an 02 and it holds 19 litres which is 5 US gallons. I can go 180 - 200 miles on 19 litres most days.

Fuel capacity on 02 nomad?

I had a scare getting home a couple of weeks ago when out on the highway and the light came on and stayed. No where to get gas so I had to keep going. Finally made it and the tank took 3.6 gallons and the needle was on dead empty when I filled up. I'm thinking there is no way there was still 1.4 gallons left in the tank. I think my 02 has a 4.2 gallon tank.

Ringading, at 180-200 miles how many gal or litres do you put in, it would be nice if someone with an 02 has put in more than 4.2 gal, just peace of mind for me and kawgirl. I don't beleive Kawa put a 5 gal tank in 1 year of the 1500 nomad and the rest have 4.2, I know, I'm a bit anal on this.

The 02 bikes do have a 5 US gallon tank, it was the 99- 01 tanks that where smaller. I put 18-19 litres in all the time, as I run my tank down very low most times. When the low fuel light comes on steady, not flickering, I usually travel about 35 more miles. Most times my fuel light comes on at about 150 miles on the trip meter.
You have about a gallon left when the light comes on, that can get you another 30-40 miles at least.

One US gallon = 3.78 litres
One CDN gallon = 4.54 litres
Our litres are very close to your quarts.

Fuel capacity on 02 nomad?

Ringadingh, Yer doin something right.. My 06 will cut out at 198 miles and I'm walkin.

Take care to not run after that yellow light comes on as habit, because the fuel pump needs cooling... Those are expensive I bet..

I may have forgotten what my 01 got, but i think I recall getting gas at 138/140 miles and taking 3.+. The 06 takes 4.+, and left me walking once at 198.....

I got to that 198 over a weeks time, so many starts, and many 1/2 miles on dirt going out cold, when MPG's is bad, running cold.

I am not about to run out again if I can help it, so no testing for me.. Pushing a Nomad isn't my idea of a good time either. Chances of me getting picked up hitch hiking isn't likely either.
