It finally happened

OK... it finally happened. Today I joined the ranks of the "I really thought that my stand was down before I dropped my bike".

Good news - no damage besides a few scratches on the wind screen. It ended up leaning against a gas pump.

Oh... and the damge to my pride!!!

Good to hear the worst damage was to your pride! Doesn't cost a whole lot to fix that; maybe just a six-pack!

Been there...done that....but it was 20 years ago on my old 1969 HD Sportster after about three beers too many.... :-/.

Nowadays....I'm too scared to get on my bike after drinking ANY booze. I need all the reaction time I can get given all the bozos on the road...!!

I almost did that the other day. I caught it just in time! It would have been disasterous because I was parked next to my utility trailer and my gas tank would have taken the full brunt of the fall against the trailer.

And here I thought I was the only one prone to mishaps! lol I got off my old Voyager 1300 and walked over to the gas pump before it fell over....Twice . Both times completely sober! Maybe you can polish those scratches out with some Pro One and one of those little Mother's balls. Good luck.

I did twice in one day! Once on each side in the driveway and not a scratch. It just leaned over on the crash bars both times. I went back in the house and stayed there.

Dropped the Honda in front of a kroger store. Nothing like a pack of little old ladies and cub scouts laughing at one to make one feel stuuupiiiid! At least, that's what it felt like. Haven't dropped the Nomad (yet). Hope I don't, it's one of those things that you tend not to forget. Congratulations and welcome to a very exclusive club.

lost mine one time.... it just leaned over on the bars, and didn't go on down..... I had a roadstar before the nomad, and it done the same thing... it would lay over on the floorboards and stop there.....I'm sure glad they built them like that, cause if it layed completely over, there's no telling what it would take to get it up again...

Happened to me too, once on the Vn800 and twice on the Nomad. Each time it happens I can feel a tear in the fabric of the Time/Space continuum :(

Anyone ever have a kickstand fail..?? You put it down and it just collapsed when the weight of the bike was put on it.... :'(??

I've had that happen before....twice! Once on my old Sportster and another time when I was just sitting on a friends bike. I had put his stand up to check out the feel, put it down again and when I set the bike on it, it just broke.

Fortunately, I had a good hold on his custom bike and it did not go down! He was right there...so he saw what happened.

For this reason I am always extra careful when I set a bike on the stand. Personally, I think the stand is too short on the Nomad and it leans too far over with a lot of weight on it.

In my garage, I always set the stand on a short piece of 2x6 lying flat on the floor. This reduces the lean angle and support weight a bit and gives me a bit more room to get around in the garage.

I know I have seen some mods for longer stands for the Nomad and I swear...one of these days..... .

The one thing I would change about the Nomad is the kickstand. I wish it would lock into place like the HD does. When I first got my bike, I was trying to push it around in my gravel driveway and was "surprised" by the weight...atleast my wife was close to keep it from falling over.
