Ride to Cortez, CO

Leaving in the morning for Cortez. Have a meeting over there and welllllllll, I just decided to ride it instead of the pickup. Work will pay for the miles and just as well enjoy it. One way is 512 miles going from home to Walsenburg over to Alamosa, over Wolf Creek Pass into Durango and over to Cortez.

That's a nice ride. I do the same thing whenever possible...collect mileage from the company and ride. Sure beats caging it.
Have fun!

Hey Waterman, have a good trip, looks like you'll be running away from a little storm system. Headed to the Glenwood Springs area myself for a couple days.

Don't know what day you're coming back, but only 66 degrees in Denver tomorrow, with snow above 12,000 feet. *shiver*

Well, I made it home about 40 minutes ago. Wonderful ride out to Cortez on 160. I have caged Wolf Creek Pass several times but never on the bike. What a difference. Saw three Nomads on the road. All were headed the other direction. After the meeting on Thursday, I started the ride home. Took the route from Cortez to Telluride over to Ridgeway. I don't think it is as scenic as 550 but it was a close second. Stayed the night in Gunnison and took out this morning. Was quite brisk. Monarch pass was fabulous.

Stayed dry for most of the trip UNTIL I hit a toad strangler about 15 miles north of Limon. No place to pull over and no way to turn around. Kept on going to Last Chance (fitting name for a town). The only time I was actually very nervous is when the lightning started. Pretty much kept saying "Please Lord, not now". Made it safe out of that. Made a stop at Last Chance to wipe the visor down. Trucker that was following me stopped and "I can't believe you kept riding thru that. You da Man." He then pumps his fist up. I was about to say you mean stupid enough? Have a few pictures but they will have to wait. Trying to warm up right now. Riding in 50's and rain is a little chilly.

I wondered if you were headed home today. I don't even feel like going out in my car!

For those of you still having a summer day, it's 51 degrees at 4:00 pm here and wet. Summer will still come back, but it's not summer today.

Too bad for you that it didn't hold off one more day. Glad the ride out was good.

I drove the truck to Buena Vista friday and there was 2 inches of snow on Wilkerson Pass. (about 9000 ft.) It pretty much rained all weekend up there, lows in the 40s, highs in the 50s.

Why??? We have plenty of riding season left. We can go into November as long as the snow stays away.

My Avatar and Sig pics were taken on the Peak-to-Peak highway at 9000 ft in January, dry clear roads and temps quite comfortably in the 40s. Can't ever count on it but is possible at times all through the winter. Bike never sets for more than a few weeks, well, about six a couple years ago.
