Larger Lowers
??? Ok, with the larger lowers on the bike, they block or move more air around them, but do they do anything good or bad with the handling ? ie, more or less pressure pushing on the front wheel? or am I way off in my thinking...??? ???

Larger Lowers
I have larger lowers and haven't experienced any ill effects in handling. I have had it up to 80 on the highway (85 if you ask Joe) and no issues.

No negative handling issues, my legs are warmer with the larger lowers to the point I take them off depending on freeway trips or not.
If I'm just putting around the city I'm not going fast enough to get helmet buffeting so I leave them off.

No neg effects, I just am not having a ton less head buffeting with them on, near the same as stock.

That was my point... I wasn't sure what the exact physics or engineeriing behind them (besides, I like the way they look) but was stupid yesterday playing catch up to the wife in her cage (Jeep) and went 100 (really only 95 right???) on the highway yesterday. Did not notice anything bad at that speed other than it was still climbing and then my brain kicked in (the stupidity monitoring part of the brain) and I backed off... down to a mear 75. I did pass her though. :-) (( someone SMITE me for my stupidity ))

Good thing you backed down as it would be just my luck, doing something like that would find me on the side of the highway with flashing lights behind.......

I agree... but it wasn't the flashing lights I was worried about, more than the thoughts of a closed casket of me and the step daughter!! (Forgot to mention I was 2-up when the stupidity occurred. Sad part was she loved the speed!! Kids... ) I am now back to my senses.
Oh did Dave order some lowers and risers from you for an 08 Nomad recently? Met him on a recent poker run and he was very impressed with your work. How about Scott Sutter? (risers only).

My mate has larger lowers on his bike and I must admit I haven't noticed any difference either slow or fast.

I've got larger lowers I made from Idaho's pattern and haven't had ANY negative side effects at all. I love having them on....from 0-100, no helmet buffeting at all!!!
Yea...I know Jeff...I owe you a pair.... sorry for the delay...still working on them though!!! ...maybe have them for when you come down for the LSR!!!!!????!!!! Hint..Hint... LOL! |

My wider lowers do help in the buffeting department. Combined with my engine guard chaps, I get hardly any buffeting at all. Handling is still the same....I see no difference there.
BTW, I'm one of the few people that keep the engine guard chaps on all year 'round. I only take them off if the temp get's above 100 on the ride.

I was thinking about the the other day Trip....when I was headed in the direction of rain. I was wondering if it had any negative effect with all the hot weather down here. I guess not. Although several days last week it hit 100 degrees!!

One thing I have noticed with the Edmonds lowers I added in February, when being being overtaken by a semi on the highway, I get a 'sail-like' effect, where I can really feel the draft-wind from the truck and trailer pulling me towards the truck. First time it happened, it took me by surprise and frankly, scared me a little. Now that I know to expect it, I anticipate it and there's no problem. That never happened with the stock lowers.

We only run them in the cooler weather. No bad effects other than a little loss on gas milage. Not near as bad as running highway bar chaps tho.
