1700 under seat storage?

One thing about internet cycle reviews, is no one obviously has to confirm that anything posted is true, factual, accurate to what is posted by the manufacturer press releases. In fact, magazines like Ultimate Motorcycling is famous for largely printing exactly what is in a manufacturer's press release. But a lot of internet reviews only serve to create advertising pages so what do they care about accuracy.

So today I find on Hotcars.com a review of the current VN1700 Vaquero that details how it compares to the likes of Harley and others. Sure, some features we always have known, but this report tells of a great feature, one I've never heard: under seat storage for helmets! Wait! What? The 1700 Vaquero has under seat storage for helmets? Something like a BMW 650 Scooter? The BMW features a huge storage area under the flip up seat that even expands as needed to store large items like helmets. But on the BMW scooter the chassis packaging is nothing like a big cruiser.

It just irks me that these internet "reviews" are not at all accurate. Imagine going to your Kawwy dealer and asking about the under seat storage for helmets feature on the Vaqureo.

Well sure. If you take out the battery and cover, there's plenty of room for a tiny skid lid.

Aren't there helmet locks under the seat? Could be that's actually what they were referring to.

There are two helmet hooks on the upper frame rail under the seat. Unlock the seat, slide the D-ring over the hook, lock the seat back in place. The helmet(s) hang over the side covers. PIA to use (never used mine) but they are there.

Aha, I knew someone here could make sense of it. Not "under seat" helmet storage at all. And your comment about them being a PIA to use further tells me the author of the internet review did not actually use or ride the bike and its features.

I grew up on motorcycles reading the cycle magazines from the 70s and 80s, back when they actually rode the bikes, did maintenance on the bikes, really evaluated them. Now all you get is some nit on the internet making believe to actually know anything about it, but not actually riding it.

Helmet locks by the motorcycle manufacturers are always in the most useless place that ever could be imagined I find. Your helmet ends up getting cooked by the pipes sometimes or they are just terrible to get at and be useful. On my Kawasaki Nomad I mounted the locks to the rear carrier on the sides. On my Suzuki 1400 Intruder when I installed saddlebags there was no way I was getting at the factory location so I installed from https://lidlox.com/ handle bar mounted helmet locks.

I think manufacturers and their R&D department need to take another look at their design or maybe fire the design team and get a new team going.

Just shows that a marketable feature isn't always a usable feature. Or that whoever designed the feature never really had to use it. Like many things, the designer was likely told "marketing shows we have to add helmet locks to the new model. You are allotted $5 as the entire cost per bike to get that done. Now get on it, need the proposal complete for tomorrow morning. Just get it done, don't care how you do it."
