I'm not sure why you would mess around with aftermarket bags when you could have Kawasaki OEM originals. Yeah, some of them are okay but a lot are crap.

If it were me I'd locate the one I need from a wrecker or on eBay.

I agree with that. No other bags look anywhere near as good either.

Dave Leyh (buckey1313) put Tsukayu Jumbo hard bags on his rebuilt 1700 Nomad. Here's his thread & video after the build was finished.

I think I'd still prefer the OEM bags though, myself.

Be diligent on Ebay. I found a set of decent OEM Nomad hard bags, complete but without the mounting frames, shipped to my home for less than $300. Took some time though, as I try to find sellers that include the shipping in the price of the parts. I also plan to paint them to compliment the bike.

My bike is a project to convert the Classic to a Nomad. I looked at all the aftermarket bags, and kept coming back to the OEM Nomad bags, if for nothing else was the size and shape, and how they blended so well into the looks of the bike. Too many of the aftermarket bags are way too small, or mount way too far back on the bike. Also, bag liners for the OEM bags make the side opening bags much more functional.

The OEM bags flow really well with the bike and the aftermarket........not so much.

I'd look on Ebay or marketplace for the ONE bag you need and be done with it.

I referred you to go via OEM! right now have these two brands in mind. Had a good experience with them. Still using the large tail bag from VB and have no complaints.

It wont be, as t's be almost 30yrs later ffs. Get a used one on ebay, or try Fallen Cycles in Florida.Good honest people. I have bought from them several times.and they shipped to the UK with no drama http://www.fallencycles.com/

I really like the bags that Peg spoke of....nice and big, follow the lines of the bike really well, just like they were meant to be on there....also, they are top loaders....thats the ONLY thing I miss about my Old Electra-Glide....well....except for the belt drive I installed....(70's model shovelhead with S&S stroker kit)

Hard Bags

Take a look at Yamaha Venture hard bags or Tour Classic hard bags. And, I really like their semi-hard leather bags with or without studs. They are large and similarly shaped to oem and open like bags should, from the top. Nothing falls out when you open the low side bag. If I was in need, I'd try to find someone with a Venture or a Royal Star to try one. i bet with a little ingenuity they'd fit and look good.
