Broken key in lft bag 2007 Vulcan Nomad

I broke the key off in the lock in the bag. Any suggestions on how to remove the piece of the key in the lock?

Poke a sewing needle into one of the grooves, and try to pry it out. A bit of WD 40 might help too.

Maybe a drop of superglue on the part of the key you have left. Not too much though. You dont need to be jamming the whole thing up. It would not work if you already put WD40, or similar, in there before.

Logical thinking. That would have to be some maqnet though nipper. The sort that would suck a bike from a pub across town, back to the missus. Has her indoors got one to could lend him ?

You can magnetize something steel to put down the lock by holding the strong magnet on the piece you put down the lock. Obviously this only works if the key is made of steel.

Another option might be taking the bag off and taking it to a locksmith. You never know what gizmos or ideas they might have.

Make sure that the lock cylinder is back in the "locked" position. If it is slightly turned, you will never get the key out. Then a slim knife blade on each side of the key should pry it out.

Thumbs Up How I got the key out.

Good suggestions and the forum is always where I go for solutions.

With the Bag laying down on the floor with the key hole up.

1. The key hole was horizontal so I treated the edge of the plate that the key hole is in along the edge all the way around with Aero Kroil "The oil that Creeps"

2. Used a pair of Exacto Knives on opposite sides of the key hole pushing to turn the key slot to vertical.

3. Treated the key & key hole with Aero Kroil spraying a small amount into the key hole.

4. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then used an Exacto Knife tip to reach into the key hole and pry a little on the back of the key. It tipped up just a 1/16th

5. Used the flat blade of 2 Exacto Knives, one on either side of the key & gripped the key and lifted.

It came right out. About a 1/2" was in the key hole.

Check out Aero Kroil. I had a can from when I was working on something else. I had read a review in Hagerty about products to "break free" stuck parts and the highest rated was Aero Kroil
