coolant leak help

Ok I checked all the hoses and tightened most of them as they come from factory appearntly loose. The leak appeared to be coming from the top left shifter side of the bike, which need the most tightening. I got it all back together and went for about a 60 mile ride RT, I get home and there is evidence again of a small leak.

Is it a hose at this point or is there something else I need to look for?

Any help would be great

2007 Nomad 1600 about 3200 miles

Hard telling, but did you snug the 2 hoses into the cly heads too? The filler neck has 4 hoses..

coolant leak help

Pull the left air filter & backing plate off and look at the pipe where the coolant hose attaches to the left rear of the front head. If you see coolant sitting there then it's probably the o-ring on that coolant pipe seeping. I changed both of mine & siliconed the pipes into the heads permanently after a real good cleaning of the mating surfaces.

Another good possibility is a leak at the thermostat housing, which is in two parts with a gasket or o-ring.

Sometimes just tightening hose clamps won't do it though. I've put rubber cement on both of my upper coolant pipe hoses to prevent them from leaking. (3-M weatherstrip adhesive is a good brand.)

good point Mac. there are 8 clamps total. Make sure you found them all. 4 are large and 4 are small.

Removing that left airfilter & backing plate lets you get to the 5 under the tank with a long screwdriver and a flashlight, and a little poking around.
