Project MeanStreak

As some of you know, I recently picked up a 03 1500 MeanStreak.

I was encouraged to share some pics of the transformation it is going through.

There aren't very many, compared to the time involved.

I'm attaching a pic of it as it arrived and a few showing some of the changes.

It now has a Memphis Shades windshield, Nomad floor boards front and rear, V&H Baggers, Nomad bags, and whatever else.

I pulled the bags and supports off, and put the Straight Shots back on so it can still be ridden, you'll see in the last pic that I'm removing the 3 strips and filling the indentations while prepping for paint.

As far as the paint, let's just say that it will be as eye catching as my Nomad.

And there will be more mods to come, I just want to have it good to go for spring Rally season.

I plan to make SEVROC Maggie Valley in May, and the National in the finger lakes.

OK the rest of the pics.

I did away with the stupid looking license plate and turn signals, I just don't have a pic of them.

Needs some mini apes to complete the transformation. Can the rear subframe handle the extra weight of pillion and luggage? Can't imagine the Mean Streak having the same GVWR as the Classic or Nomad.

It has the same swingarm as the Nomad and Classic.

The frame itself is so close it's not funny.

There are a couple of mounting bosses moved or missing and the MS frame is about 3" shorter at the rear fender, it's missing the last bolt hole.

I don't see where the carrying capacity could be much different unless the shocks were softer, they're not.

I'm not planning on loading it down for a cross country trip, the lower gearing would make it less than ideal for extremely long hauls.

But after getting used to a bagger it's hard to ride a bike with no bags, where do you carry a spare t-shirt or a bottle of water or anything.

After seeing so many Nomads with 500+ pounds of rider and passenger and God only know how much stuffed into the bags and strapped on the bike, I really don't think it's going to be a problem.

The bags and supports weighed under 50 lbs shipped.

YOU THA MAN, MAS!!!!! I'm gonna be watching this one closely, I think this one is gonna be a Killer Setup!
I Agree, 10-12 Apes would look great, in my opinion. Or at least 10/12" risers w/dragbars.

Maybe, but she handles so so sweet with the bars and risers that are on it right now.

They're not the stock set, so I can't compare them to factory.

They look to be about 6" rise with 2" pullback and drag bars.

Hey MAS, I rode an 03 Meanie for years, loved it. For one year she was the only bike I had. I fabbed some rider foot peg extensions cause my wife has bad knees (insert joke here) and rode two up about half the time. Even with after market fuel processor, air intake and 3" Hard Krome pipes she still ran like a pig with the added weight. She was a screamer (the bike...) when riding solo though. FYI.

Those look like the bars I have on mine and it was a Classic . I bought the bars as new take offs from a Meanie but they could have came off a 900 SE . I think they are close to the same bar. I bought mine from a local Kaw dealer. That being said, I'm about to get thrashed here but I just don't get Apes, mini Apes or white walls and fringes for that matter but to each his own. I will say those are really comfortable bars for me and even better after I put the mirror extenders on them. I should point out the fact that I have T-Rex arms is probably why I don't get the whole high handle bar thing too. But you are coming along nicely with that bike. I'm liking it!

Lookin' good. I've never seen a seat like that on a Vulcan 1500. It looks like it would be extremely comfortable on a long haul. Would you happen to know if 1600 Nomad and 1600 MS seats are interchangeable?

I'm not sure whether they'll interchange.

They're Mustang seats though.

I can't complain about the comfort, I just need a back rest now.

The 1600 Nomad and Classic seats are a different animal.

Both have wider pans and can't interchange according to Mustang's site.

Well, actually the 1600 Nomad and 1600 Classic seats do interchange. I have a Nomad seat mounted on my Classic. Same mounts, no modification needed. You probably meant they are a different animal from the 1500 seat.

Exactly correct.

The 1500 Nomad seats won't fit on the Meanies either.

I've read that a 1500 Classic seat can be modified to fit, but I have no direct knowledge of it.

MAS, does the Nomad bag brackets fit the MS frame? Which are you gonna run, the the racks or leather protectors on top of the bags?
