JOG install

Has anyone on the board ever installed a JOG on their bike? I have one coming from Judge. He is a great guy. He didn't even realize we were here (the site) but he stopped by this morning to see what it was all about.

If you have done this mod and can offer some pointers or would be willing to help, let me know.

coacha .......When you get the JOG, there will be a very detailed set of instructions with it. Be very careful to follow the directions as laid out. The install requires the use of red loctite on the pieces to hold it all together. Be sure to use a high strength loctite for this. I installed a JOG on my 99 and it failed. I suspect the loctite I used was not strong enough to hold it together. I sent the gear back to Judge for inspection but have not heard back from him yet. There was another failure recently in the states and the loctite was suspected there as well. I ended up takeing the engine out, splitting the case and replacing with an oem gear from makaw. She runs great now! There are many many successful JOG installs and very few failures. It is a good product. Good luck with your install.

It's a replacement for the POG (Plastic Oil Gear) that has been known to fail on some of the 90s BUBF bikes and many more 99 Nomads. It allows you to replace the gear without splitting the case.

Scion0 .....A JOG (Judge's Oil Gear) is an oil pump drive gear designed by a guy named Judge to replace the plastic oil pump gear that was installed by makaw in 99 and earlier 1500 engines. The plastic oil gears (POGS) have been failing (wearing till the plastic teeth stripped off) and originally the only repair was to split the case and replace it with a steel oil gear (SOG). Judge designed a replacement steel gear that can be used to replace the POG without splitting the case. It is a very good piece of engineering and there are many owners who have replaced the POG with a JOG before the failure occurred. Kind of preventative maintenance.

Red Loctite holds very well when used properly. On something as critical as the oil gear I would make sure that I used FRESH Red Loctite, and clean the area where it is to be used with rubbing alcohol or contact cleaner to make sure it was spotlessly clean of oil and dirt.I used to use it to hold my drive clutch on my snowmobile back in my racing days, and you would have to warm the clutch with a torch to soften the Red Loctite enough to remove the clutch.

I think Ringadingh has the answer there: the Loctite needs to be fresh, and the surfaces it's applied to must be surgically clean. Remember that metal looks solid but it has pores. Clean it repeatedly, and use fresh rags to wipe it dry each time.
