Crying So much for a Utah trip

Well, Cindy and I headed out on our trip to Utah this morning.
Everything was fine until 200 miles into the trip.
My Nomad would not pick up speed very well after 72 MPH.
If I just gave it throttle vert slowly I could get 76 on the downhill. But if I gave it full throttle it just stayed at 72 or lost mph. Not good on the interstate with semi's going anywhere from 70 to 80 mph.
Sooooooooooo, after 250 miles we decided to turn back as it is better to be home with a bad running or broken down bike than half way across the US.
500 mile day and ended up back at home.
It runs great up to 65 MPH but after that it has no get up and go.
I don't know what the hell is wrong with it other than a small coolant leak but will be going to the shop tomorrow.

Well that sucks. Hope it is only a minor problem. Maybe fuel filter or pump ? It would be nice if they find the fix right away :)

Sorry to hear that TC. Sounds like fuel delivery problem. Mine had a similar problem and I ended up rebuilding the carb. However, I know that your bike is the FI model and I don't know anything about FI. Good luck with the repair and the trip.

The Vic was running like a bear Brad But you knew that.
I took some pics to see what you guys think.
Do you see anything in the 1st pic that could cause the no topend power?
Such as should the two pipe things with the white caps be blocked like that?
Should the big tube on the right be left open like it is or should it be blocked?
The wires are all taped so nothing is touching each each other.
The second and third pics are of the coolant leak. It is a very small leak but seems to be coming from where the rear jug is mated to the base.
As you can tell by my terminology I am no mechanic.
So any ideas.

Hi Tim , The two white caps should be there because the cold air valves have been removed . The larger hose on your right is your crankcase breather hose and should be left open .
I would also check your filter and make sure it`s clean and it does look as though your throttle body needs a good cleaning . Toothbrush and some carb cleaner or seafoam works very well .

No it shouldn't. That your PCV (positive crankcase vent ) The white caps I'm guessing are plugs. Make sure they aren't leaking. Spray some wd-40 at them with the bike running. If the idle changes ,you have a leak. I'm guessing you have a fuel delivery problem. ( plugged screen in the tank or ethanol ate something) Do you run any additives in the winter to counteract the ethanol for storage?

sorry, thought he had a cadman mod... why remove solenoids completely and not do Cadman or aftermarket air intake?

If those white caps were leaking, your engine would be surging at idle due to a vacuum leak. They are there because your idle air solenoids have been removed. The taped up wires are the leads that went to the idle air solenoids. You don't want them shorting out against ground, it could cook your ECU. See, a little bike knowledge is a good thing.

Sorry about your trip, buddy. Hopefully the dealer will get you back on the road quickly. It sounds to me like it's a fuel problem, like the FI isn't getting enough fuel.

Maybe someone didn't like the clicking noise from the solenoids? BTW, Caddman is a dirty word here.

Sorry to hear about the set back Tim. You have had this bike for awhile, and unless you never went over 70 mph with it, I am wondering why you question mods done to it previously as a possible cause. Basically the 3 main things that can stop a bike from accelerating past a certain speed. Starvation of fuel, over restricted exhaust or spark timing. I'm not sure if it was it was starving for fuel if it would buck or kick when you opened her wide open or not. Haven't heard much on the forum about exhaust problems but a partially plugged exhaust or catalytic converter will definetly cause the symptom you describe and does happen often enough on a car. Not sure how the ECU advances the timing or if it could fail to do so and still run fine at lower rpm , I'm doubting it. One other possibility is slipping clutch, was the engine still Reving well and if you dropped it into 4 the could you get it to accelerate abut better?
Anyway hope you get it sorted out quick.
