Howdy from Texas..
I'm new to this forum and to metric motorcycles..so I have a lot of Dumb questions to ask..so I will muddel through the best I can! Lifes a learning experience! I have been into motorcycles and related activities all my life.
Grew up with BSA/Norton/AJS..first big bike was a 900 XLCH Sporty.. had my share of Shovelheads/EVOs/several Twin Cams..some good..some on so much! Spent many days in the garage repairing..in stead of riding. I retired from a MC Club here in Texas..sold the HDs and all the parts that piled up over the years..and have spent the past several years just being a Grandpa. I have had several major operations in the past years, and have not rode at all. A old dear friend(Brother Vietnam Veteran) passes away the start of 2016,and I received a phone call from his wife, saying that he had left me his motorcycle! I was,and am still blown away with this gesture of kindness! Its a 2000 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Nomad..its a little ruff, has 32K on the clock, and its purple! So..Heres my plan..I'm going to fix the little things that are wrong with this Scooter, clean it up really good, and Ride the Hell Out Of It! The Mrs thinks its "COOL"and its set up as a 2 up ride! Its going to be Great to get back into the wind again! Take Care..Ride Safe. David (OldIronRider) Login or Register to Remove Ads |

Welcome to the forum brother from Missouri I have the same bike you just inherited. The official name of your paint is " Purplish Black Mica". They are a good classic ride. Only a couple of mods you need to do (if not done already) to keep her running for a long , long time.

Well, oldironrider, Welcome and congratulations. And most of all....Thank you for serving! The bike you have is fairly rare. I have the same model in the same color and you won't see many of them. I sort of semi retired mine at a tick over sixty thousand miles. It still runs like scalded ape, but We tour now on a somewhat larger and a little more apointed bike. But the wife and I cut our teeth on the Purple Nomad. We put those miles on her and covered a lot of ground. Seen a lot of rain, bugs, rocks and other things on that one. You'll enjoy it! You have also landed in the best regional group out there. Bunch of great guys here. Go to the events, you will like it.
.What part of Texas are you from. We are in Magnolia, just a bit north of Tomball. Happy riding. And if you have questions, ask. I've done about every thing you can do to one of these 1500's. I also have a heavily modified 1600, but that's another story.
