No more coolant
So... after 100KM or so of riding, the coolant container seems to be dry to the bone. Any suggestions of where I should start looking to troubleshoot?
Im leaving in 15 minutes for 2 days, but would like to take a look at this next week. I sure hope it's nothing major :(

In all your work on the bike this spring, did you change the coolant? If so you may not have gotten all the air out. The system will draw coolant from the overflow bottle as it cools down. Any leaks on the floor?, there is a weeping hose from the water pump up front right side look to see if it drips, sometimes it will after the bike has been stored but will go away after a bit, sometimes it will continue to leak and a seal change is needed. Another known issue with the Nomad is the rad hoses hidden by the tank sometimes leak at the hose clamps but because of the heat of the motor it dries leaving a white power around the trouble spot but never drips, tighten the clamps.

What Norm said........... And also there is 1 "O"-ring on each head with a "water pipe" that sometimes will develop a leak. These are the tubes that the hoses attach at the head end, coming from the thermostat housing.

If you cannot find any apparent leaks on the outside, the first thing I would do is fill the coolant and then turn on the bike and let it idle. Check to make sure fan comes on when its supposed to. If it does, then I would move on to the radiator cap and then the thermostat and then on from there. These bikes have a high temp point. The OEM sensor kicks on at 212 degrees Fahrenheit. It doesn't take much for these engines to run hot if one of these parts go bad. Running hot will cause you to lose coolant.

Check the bottom (underneath) left side of the radiator to see if there are signs of leaking. Mine did as you have described and it was leaking at the left radiator stub that sits in the rubber bushing. It was only when it got bad that it actually dripped on the garage floor. Until then, it just evaporated but left the the telltale stains.

add some coolant to the right side bottle. Take it for a ride, check it the next morning, if it went down, you have a leak somewhere.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I'll see what I can find.
Dave - There was coolant above the "L" before my first ride, after 100KM, the reservoir was empty. I hope it's just a leak and nothing major. Do you guys suggest removing the tank to get to the places I need to get to to check this stuff? or can I get to most of it as is? Thanks

Thanks[/QUOT Well if you can't find the leak by looking around the bike then yes you will have take the tank off to see. I found my mysterious coolant smell that I could never find by mistake. I happened to take the tank of and sure enough I could see the dried up antifreeze up there. Tightened up that hose and the smell went away. The reason I never saw the antifreeze run down was because it was getting burnt off before it made it down.

I tightened all the clamps the best i could, no obvious problems, radiator looks to be in good shape, fan works and does come on, I know that.
I out new coolant in and will try again.
