Niagara Falls to Deals Gap

I have some friends from the U.K planning a trip from Niagara Falls to Deals Gap. They are shipping their bikes to Toronto and returning to the U.K from Vancouver. They intend to spend most of their time in the U.S.

Can you suggest places to stay and to eat on the way from Niagara Falls to Deals Gap and a good place to stay near Deals Gap. I hear the Deals Gap resort is not that great.

When I get more details of their itinerary after they leave Deals Gap I will ask more questions on where to stay and what to see enroute to the west coast.

As for places to stay around Deal's Gap, I would suggest looking at Fontana Village. Checkout this link:https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=l&ai=...navillage.com/

If they choose to stay in Robbinsville, which is really close to the Dragon and the Cherohalo Skyway, I stay at the San Ran Motel. It's an older place but really clean and well kept. Small single story motel that you can park your bike under the sidewalk overhang, inches from your rooms door. Walking distance to food, drug stores, and they have a laundry room for guess. Stays full of riders all summer long.

From Niagara to DG I would suggest they hit 16 in WV. Take it south out of Beckely WV down to Marion VA. It is an amazing run and is considered by many, including me to be better than the Dragon and rivals all the roads down there. It will only add about an hour to their drive time.

Then cut across 81 to get over to the Gap area. I always drop south near Bristol and go in below the mountains. Going across on 212 and 209. You pick them up off 26 south of Johnson City.

I would not stay in Robbinsville. It is a dry town and the restaurant selection is total crap. Stay in Franklin if want to be south of the mountains. From there you head north and hit the 28, round trip the dragon then across the Skyway then down 68 and circle around back to Franklin. A great single day circle.

Day two you go south on 28, through Highlands...across War Woman Rd and then across 356 348 180 up 60 then over to Franklin. A very epic loop.

That is two nights in Franklin, which means you get to eat twice at Cafe Rel.

If they'll be in the area, tell them to make sure and ride the Cherohala Skyway (NC/TN) if they have time. It was awesome and not as busy as the Dragon when we've been there.

I might change it to ABQ to four corners to monument valley to flag to GC and then on to the rest. In flag, there's an old fashioned hotel and restaurant that reminds me of old western style. I've eaten there it's good. http://weatherfordhotel.com . Too bad they can't go south as see some of the sights, like 191, 89 from Prescott south, Mt Lemon, etc. There's some nice riding going down lake mary rd to happy jack and if they take 87 to 260 from there, they could hit 191. It's all high altitude and cooler than down in the valley where I live. The other route would be go south on 89A to Sedona and then on to prescott with a stop in Jerome.
