Front whee noise - 10000mls for a bearing change??
Can you describe your noise a bit? I am getting a noise also in turns and a vibration. Doesn't happen all the time so I am confused on it.

It does seem a little early for bearing replacement, Its probably the tire starting to roar a bit as it wears. This is normal for bike tires, especially on the front tire.

dingalingh...er ah rignadingh is right (I'm sure I'll get grief for that in Elkins! LOL).....I would imagine it is your tire....would be highly unusual for the bearing to be having a problem so early IMHO.

On stock Stones still? If so that is likey to be the problem.
Just to be safe in case this is a squeel insted of a howl moan, dob 2 dots of paint, onew on the ft axel and the other at mid night above the first dot on the fork. Make these small and use a color you can see.. If after a little miles go by where you hear the sound look at the axel and se if it is where it was... If it isn't get the axel re-torqued some pronto! So far I KNOW of 2 Nomads and 2 Classics that spun front axels!

Front whee noise - 10000mls for a bearing change??
Don't think that just the Bridgestones will howl either. My front Metzler is starting to howl after about 8000 miles or so. It's not bad yet, but this is a sound that definately varies with both cornering pressure and road surface, so tires would be the first concern there.

It sounds like a grind, i'll check for axle spin as well. It does have Bridgy's on but only 4500klms.

That just doen't sound right to me TC. I've mounted a few and they never howl new.
What pressure do you have in it? I think mine actually started howling (because of cupping) too soon, because I was running too little pressure in the front. |

Mine sometimes, when in a curve really hard, will make a screetchy/rattling noise, almost like radio stattic. I've checked everything at least a dozen times, and can't find anything wrong. I am thinking that it probably is the front pads rattling in the calipers. (I hope)

Yeah. The pads do that. Try it in a curve where you've got lots of run-off room in case the bike wants to stand up and go wide, and just touch the front brakes a little when you hear that noise. If the noise changes, it's those pads.

Front whee noise - 10000mls for a bearing change??
CaddmannQ , If you remember , I asked you about the pinch bolts on the front forks being loose from the dealer. They were so loose I could turn them with my fingers. I tightened them up myself, but I just tightened them with the bike on the side stand.
Along with the roaring sound in turns I think the bike surges a little all the time , like the tire is out of round. Could this be from the way I tightened the pinch bolts or do you think it is all in my head. I think I read somewhere on here about pushing the tire against a wall to line up something but can't find it. Needless to say I'm not real happy with the new tire. I run 40 front and 42 rear air pressure. Any help would be appreciated ![]()

TC, with the "pinch bolts" loose, and the axle torqued to 85 ft lbs. sit on the bike and put the front tire up against something so the bike won't move, and WITHOUT using the brake, pump the front up and down really hard, as hard as you can. Do this about 8 -12 times, and then get off and torque your pinch bolts to 14-1/2 to 15 ft lbs. this is to make sure your forks are aligned and even in length. I do have it sitting on a block under the right frame and the side stand to hold it pretty well level when I torque the pinch bolts, but you can"t have the blocks underneath while pumping the forks. I have them sitting to where I can take my foot and move them into place though.

I had a loud squealing sound in the front of my bike. I found out that the dealer, when he set up the bike didn't torque the front axle. Just to be sure, check your axle.
